Forget Ealing , The Future is Bright

. Feeling a little flat after the disappointing Ealing result ? The answer , as so often in life , is to listen to Homer Simpson.
We are in what Homer called that" Glorious period between the telling of a lie and being found out “.Brown has somehow managed to give the impression he was not here for the last ten years and that he is a moderate almost rightish politician .I have reported that the continued purring of the left is not for nothing, and subterraneously ,the empire is already attacking academies and privatisation of the NHS. Brown is still a socialist and he will be unable to pretend otherwise for long .The lie told to the people on the EU is also starting to unravel with news that our seat at the UN and the security Council may now be occupied by a High Representative .Ealing fell in the middle of the Brown honeymoon and with and electorate that is scarcely representative of the country (although Labour would like it to be ..). The unfortunate last minute Press may not have helped but the Brown factor was the main issue .

The grand lie will soon also be found out .That is that taxes can be increased passengers carried and noone pay . Our bloated state sector contains thousands if non jobs that Brown cannot cut . OCD data tells us the state sector at 45 % is now bigger than Germany’s and Sterling will soon come under pressure. The housing market is set to “readjust “ . We have a current account deficit of 3.45 % when we should not and off balance sheet borrowing of gathering a storm for future generations. The US is looking less clever When the housing market cools the interest rates that have propped up Sterling`s stability will be gone and the magic of the having your cake and eating it will begin to evaporate .

Callaghan’s 14% inflation and Major`s ERM we will not get but at the moment Brown is living on easily borrowed credit in his party and in the country. If he was wise he would go for an early election , as things can only get worse for him and are bound to do so,. Conservatives must resist undermining David Cameron who may need to stiffen his attack over the Summer but has the strategy right in that Conservative have to stay in the centre.

There are many reasons to be cheerful about the prospects for the future Ealing is an odd constituency at an odd time and it is to Cameron`s credit at this point that things were not worse. There is a simple fact, Brown is able to rule the Labour Party like a War Lord because the left trust that he is misrepresenting his intentions to the electorate. Such a fragile position cannot withstand sustained attack and with economic wobbles ahead we will soon see that Brown is having a picnic in the eye of the storm .

It may even be a good thing . The Cornerstone , constituency of the Parliamentary and greater Party , who I like personally , have not been helping . We have been sharing the cake before there is one . This cold bath of reality may assist the long overdue waking up process. We are past the time when we can afford passengers . If we are going to challenge the Brown Empire the Party has to realise that Weimarish debating has to stop.

Prepare to win , Prepare for Government

Life Goes on Under Emperor Brown

As I sit nervously wondering how things will pan out down Ealing way I am still riven with disappointment that “Mock The Week” which started so well has now drooped flaccidly into bashing the Conservatives and the Monarchy in lieu of a ”Muvver in Law“. In ten minutes they created endless hilarity by guessing the sentence behind the words C.S.I.P superimposed on a picture if the Conservative leader .Hilarious suggestions included the hilarious Cameron is Stupid Inbred Prat “ , the hilarity continued until the truth (Slide in Polls ) was hilariously revealed . Then it was onto some dog eared Boris Johnson Material and downhill from there. Shame really there are some talented writers involved but we are clearly onto the B gags after only two weeks. It has often been remarked that the BBC are biased in the current affairs but far more so in the cultural output when the world that cares is not watching. A bad week for the Beeb all round and a Poll tax for slabs of cooking programmes and execrably drab drama seems increasingly anachronistic.

The Speccie is blooming and it contains many nuggets including a fascinating piece by Fraser nelson which answers a riddle I have been teasing at for a week . How can gay Gordon move to the right so effortlessly and yet retain Union support and left progressive loyalty ?

The Telegraph coincidentally has an Editorial “ Brown Moves Right ticking off the signals . Reclassifying cannabis as a class B drug , shouting boo at Russia, burying the super casino and dropping the “presentational” style Blair specialised in This embellishes the theme begun with dropping targets for Hospitals and supporting Academies .Pretty Conservative eh and yet not a murmur from the left pourqui ?

Well partly it is because Gordon has such a long record of left wingery that they trust him to say whatever it takes to get elected and then change direction sharpish . To just that extent we should not trust anything he says now but something a little more sinister is going on behind these eye catching initiatives .
Blair was not allowed to fiddle much at home but when Gordo`s back was turned he hatched a little commonsense .

The shy delicate creature was only at the infant stage . But, 1% of the NHS budget is in the hands of outside medical companies and there are 47 Academies ( out of 3300 Secondary schools ) . He had learned as all men do eventually , that government diktats were useless and competition worked. Brown is quietly killing the baby in its sleep .Its so easy ….just stop feeding it . In the Brown Imperium Sussex NHS trust has cancelled the contract for BUPA`s clinic and other similar moves are afoot in Cumbria . The word is out that these private gestures are no longer protected . Naturally the local Commissars will quickly do the rest .
The same is true of City academies
. Under new rules the they will lose independent curriculum and come under greater control by Town halls . Town Halls have always hated them and though the name continues the programme is dead

There are plenty more example of how the Scottish Emperor sends signals to his legions of left sprites and demons that feasting time on the public purse is coming back. The truth is that Brown is as much of a liar as Blair , the problem is he is much much better at it .

When is someone one going to give the Mazola Milliband a proper interview. Andrew Marr all but popped Foreign Secretary’s little feller into his fleshy gob for a moments executive relief so adoring was he . Sorry …anyway in the New Statesman he is up to his usual apple for teacher “ What I did on Holiday” style of cobblers. This is typical of the polluting offal he specialises in
“..But the EU was founded to tackle threat that no longer exists ; conflict within Western Europe. If it is to renew its mandate it needs to find a new raison d`etre including , I believe , a focus on addressing climate change. . Creating an Environmental Union is as big a challenge in the 21st century as peace in Europe was in the 1950s “

Anyone who has got this far you may return your jaw to its normal position in your own time . What is he talking about ?

The New statesman has an interesting view on the IDS family initiative including a startling statistc from Frank Field “ A lone parent with two children under eleven , working sixteen hours weekly on minimum wage ha d an income of £487 per week in 2006. To get the same a couple had to work 116 hours .” The Statesman accepts that Labour Policy has been anti family for ten years… however it demurs at the Premium proposed of £20 per week for marriage as it may also help better off people. IDS wants ‘to shore up marriage in its heartland’ and hope that the signal will trickle down to other sectors who will be encouraged to see marriage as a social good . Of course they have found an inelegantly expressed paternalist sentence and scoffed at the idea the poor might learn from their betters They are not however able to address the way to reverse the damage and avoid another means tested disincentive . To some problems the New Statesman turns Nelson`s eye and always will.( Thats Horatio , not Mandella BTW)

There is a lovely article by Boris’s father in the Spec offering a couple of anecdotes and some mild advice of the “To thine own self be true “ variety. His pride in his son is marvellously present and it is really touching to see him strive to be modest and light when he clearly quite rightly bursting with pride at the achievements of our future Mayor . Incidentally Newmania Senior once got drunk with Johnson senior andd others at the Party Conference and reports he is the best of eggs .

PS the Freedom Association bash was a ball with a pretty young Conservative who , I gather got kicked of a reality show , giving a disarmingly fresh talk and much robust discussion to follow.
I ended the evening , tired and emotional . All a bit young for me really but the mercurial wit of Croydonian is always worth attending to. Devils Kitchen very generously explained how the world would be a better place if we all took drugs and scrapped the NHS or something ….and yet the world remains stubbornly no more put to rights that when I last saw it .

Don`t Mind Us You Come On In

The Prime Minister trumpets his plans to build three million houses by 2020. What he omitted to mention is one million of these will be for new immigrants, not for existing immigrants who are now a valued part of our community, but for new immigrants." ...
Nicholas Soames, Tory MP for Mid Sussex, told a Westminster Hall debate

I found this in the Argus and there isn’t a lot to add except to say that the damage done to this country by the levels of migration it has been expected to absorb will probably never be put right .I suspect myself that immigration is a contributory factor in many more problems than housing but Labour Progressives don’t notice, tucked safely in their all white retreats in Dorset and Surrey. Liam Byrne tells us that a new points sysytem wil be in place next year but this is far to little far too late.

FACTS

1 The UK had absorbed two million people from "scores of countries around the world" over the past decade - equivalent to about 600 people a day.
2 Foreign immigration runs at 300,000 a year,
3 UK receives an additional one per cent of its population every two years .
4 Net immigration - is at an all-time high of 200,000 a year - up from just 50,000 in the mid-Nineties...... .”

Boris, Wodehouse and Polly

I picked up the Grauniad today , slumming you know ,and I came upon a perversely splenetic slab of anti Boris merde courtesy of the Niece of Lord Carlisle and staggeringly ,the ex Social Affairs editor ( BBC), Polly Toynbee. Boris vouchsafed a few quips in her direction when David Cameron was hitching his star to her “Caravan” ( You remember the end one is “poor people” and it shouldn’t fall off the back,,,etc.). Polly read extensively about “Poor people” ,during her undistinguished career at Badminton Independent school for girls. One can only fall silent in awe when the oracle reveals the rotten state they are in.

Anyway Boris was quick to agree with his old Eton chum that she was wonderful . Lovely woman he said , lovely fastness in Italy to worry about society in , lovely Public schools to turn her brats into more of the same , lovely muddy great carbon footprints made whilst flying to and fro once a week . What he asked ..is not to like ?

Perhaps this mild teasing caused the old volcano to splutter forth its magma but iridescent with rage she clearly was . The title referred to our Blonde Princling as a ‘serial liar ‘, a toff and a sociopath , rather thrilling I thought , give us the goods Poll ?

It turns out that the lying consists of making up a quote when at the Times ( shocking) ,the sociopath was just free floating abuse ,and the toff was scarcely taking a scalpel to the man’s reputation so ..so what ?

Otherwise her glum hectoring affected to understand remarks made in a tone between irony and truth at their mat-paint face value . Thus a reference to the Soviet Union and the NHS is called “ Boris shows contempt for the NHS“. “ I believe passionately in Educational inequality “ becomes contempt for the poor . . This latter remark was during was a defence of abandoning Grammars ,in which he pointed out the presence of setting would provide a ladder for the bright but under privileged.Toynbee , in short , was contextually lying .

Perplexed by this ghastly habit the Left have ,of refusing to see anything funny about themselves or anything else , I happened to come across a defence of PG Wodehouse Boris once wrote .Like Mr. Johnson and so many English men, my sense of humour was irreversibly infected at an early age by this Olympian artisan artist. I also had a mother who located old books at jumble sales from which I consumed collections contemporary Punch stalwarts . Between the wars the lower classes still had Music Hall . (Now we have X factor ….), the middle classes still had a fertile tradition of a gentle and intricately wrought comic short stories.. PG Wodehouse was the greatest of many . He and perhaps the earlier WS Gilbert ,are the only remnants we have of a middling culture our forefathers enjoyed .He is also the funniest man that there has ever been. If you read one ,read the Heart of Goof . Perfection ..incidentally AA Milne comes in for a bit of a ragging therein ( Timothy Bobbit goes hippity hopptity …..)….. See below

Boris deals with the accusation that Plum was Nazi Sympathiser and , like Orwell, calls it for the vindictive rubbish it was . The problem revolves around the broadcasts made from Berlin. I have read them ,and clearly they mean to imply that the British chin was up ,and he was ok . It was an error but then he had no idea what was happening outside. He said himself .” I ought to have seen it was a loony thing to do but I suppose prison life saps the intellect”. In short the man made a mistake . How the wolves fell upon him. He was cast as a wealthy parasite and idle traitor , The roll of shame includes Quintin Hogg who compared him to Lord Haw Haw and Duff Copper who got the BBC to refer to him as Play boy . AA Milne was in on the act as well.( See above)

He was nothing of the sort . He was not of wealthy stock and he lived not only by his talent but by his prodigious work ethic . As for the assertion that he was a Nazi sympathiser , utter nonsense. He was not a political man but as close as he ever came to a statement was in “ the Code of The Woosters “In which the appalling Spode and his black shorts (footer bags ..how perfectly foul) are a burlesque on Mosely …. For once in is career of masterly inactivity Bertie lets another man have a piece of his mind .

“ The trouble with you Spode “ he says ,” is that because you have succeeded in inducing a handful of halfwits to disfigure the London Scene by going around in shorts , you think you’re someone.
You hear them shouting “Heil Spode ! And you imagine it is the Voice of the People That is where you are making your bloomer. What the voice of the people is saying is “look at that frightful ass Spode swanking around in footer bags ! Did you ever see such a perfect perisher “

Let us hope that Ken`s portentous claims to be “serious?” and Toynbee`s po-faced sanctimony reveal them for what they are too. The voice of the people of London will say as one

“ Did you ever in all you puff see such a couple of perfect perishers “

Worship Homer

I saw that the Pagans were doing a rain dance in the hopes of washing away the Homer next to ancient Viagra man , who , in their moonbat way , they have decided is a God . Au contraire , say I the priapic early art stunt , is clearly a worthless piece of conceptual Tomfoolery . Homer Simpson on the other had is almost certainly a God with a highly developed religion .

The Philosophy of Homer

Ah, beer. The cause of and the solution to all of life's problems. Who are you? Why am I here? I want answers now or I want them eventually! That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college!
Marge, it takes two to lie. One to lie, and one to listen. Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand! You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'. Oh, everything's too damned expensive these days. Like this Bible. It cost 15 bucks! And talk about a preachy book! Everybody's a sinner! Except this guy. Here's to alcohol - the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems. Don't let Krusty's death get you down, boy. People die all the time, just like that. Why, you could wake up dead tomorrow! . I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me, Superman! I'm not gonna lie to you, Marge. See ya soon! God bless those pagans.

Amen

No Time To Go Wobbly

After the poor Polls there has been a certain amount of deluded moaning about David Cameron`s strategy of occupying the centre . I have already argued at length that such foolishness can only deliver us a further period of socialism,. I am glad to see that the Party is not wobbling. This from Politcs .co.uk

”Senior Tories have insisted the party will keep to the centre ground rather than retreating to the right. This follows calls from Edward Leigh, president of the Cornerstone group of MPs for a traditional policy focus on "low taxation, deregulation, strong immigration controls and strong defence".
Shadow chancellor George Osborne insisted the Tories will remain in the mainstream. He told BBC's Sunday AM:"We are not changing our strategy".
He also firmly rebutted suggestions the party may oust Mr Cameron, insisting there was "no prospect" of a leadership change. Mr Cameron's modernising strategy had made the Conservatives "real players" again, Mr Osborne said, pointing to the party's recent election gains.”

Hopefully this will calm the girls who have had a fit of the vapors and we can get on with grown up politics . I have high hopes that Boris will reignite the Conservative flame and there is another enticing possibility .

Brown is now the PM , for years he has been able to be all things to all me of the Left. Remember that Polly Toynbee and the New Statesman have been energetic in attacking the Blair left flank and Gordon has been their prince over the water . With an election to win he has immediately hoved to the safe shores of the centre promoting academies and laughing off the Deputy leadership elections Catherine wheel of (eeek) socialism. Peter Hain will not be getting income redistribution , well not in public anyway. As we approach the real thing he knows that to win overall and especially in England which he must do , he has to stick his spotty Scottish arse far into the land of the right . If the Labour Party rank and file start to wonder if they`ve been `ad then we are in a whole new game .
Thus far they are beating us with greater discipline and political dishonesty. We will never match the mendacity of the believers but we can at least attempt the first.

Support David Cameron. Support the Party. Save the Country

In A Sentence

Good new for Boris . Andrew Neill put it to the rat-fink Campbell he..” Should go and run Boris Johnson’s campaign “. Campbell replied “ I would rather die “…oh make it so ..make it so…

In the sixties the lefts sycophantic attitude to lefty illiberal regimes and demonising of the West was in full swing . One chant was “ Hey hey , LBJ , how many kids did you kill today “. The response from jeering bystanders was “ Ho Ho Ho chi Minh , how many kids have you done in “

Ethnic minorities are estimated by the government at 6.75 %of the population . Is that right really ? Its over 50% of London and the midlands …I`m struggling to reconcile these ”facts “. Anyway Ethnic minorities make up 29 %of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate and 30% of the Immigration Service. I`m saying nuffin.

Over 10% of the Australian Government’s revenue comes from gambling( coo)

Do you recall the attempt to rebrand the DTI the Dept. of Productivity Energy and Industry. The P-roductivity, EN-ergy and I-dustry S-ecretary didn`t like his acronym but I have a new word I want to try “aptronym”. It means an especially apt name and I `m sure it was . (I may be accused of sesquipedalianism though, hope so)

Lots of votes in being heard not being nice to Jews, even if you explain it away as not being serious or a reaction to intolerable provocation

( The magnificent HG made this last remark ...tells you all, you need to know about Ken in a sentence")

Hold fast !

I have been in a state of misery since the poor Polls at the weekend. They show a seven point lead to Brown and there is not any other way to look at it than with dismay . This is the point when the Conservative Party must not lose its nerve . In fact it should be stiffening its sinews and gathering together. I posted this on dale and as Judith liked it I am putting it up here as well.

“Cameron is doing a great job . Brown has tribes of hagiographers working day and night at the BBC and they have been on overtime this last month. In addition the economy has performed well over ten years despite the Labour Party who are perversely they are credited with this . It was always going to be a “big ask” to dislodge a Party who have presided over a period of relative calm and affluence as well as being utterly committed to power at all costs whatever lie must be told . ..and they will say anything.
My advice is play the ball not the game. he first thing that all Conservatives can do is to stop treating politics like a school debate decide who they dislike least and start advocating . We have the product so what we do now is sell it , not sit around whining about a few private peccadilloes that are not on the menu .In two Party Politics discipline is what wins elections . The New Labour project have excluded their own left from public debate They monitor every snippet for propaganda value . We cannot go on being a come as you are soirée confronted with ranks of dead eyed storm troopers
Perhaps it will take two elections as it did for the Labour Party during the Major years , perhaps it will take a disaster , it will come , they have no idea what they are doing. The tectonic plates are shifting on Europe .The break up of the Union will also yield opportunities but if Conservatives and those of the right are going to behave like scabs then we should get our collective coat. When are the bleaters and swivel eyed anachronistic show boaters going to realise , this Party is no longer the natural Party of Government and if it going to be it has to include many who currently vote Liberal or have liberal views.

I begin to despise those, many of whom, ,lets face it , are old and are conducting a hobby having passed through peak earning to the detriment of many natural Conservatives who will be consigned to a period of far left Brownite blood sucking betrayal . Have you seen how far to the left this government has moved in ten years and do you imagine this process will stop ? We are on our way to be a Euro social model Brussels dependency with England broken up and a permanent Left centre coalition pulling the strings via PR . We are headed towards the end of the country in any recognisable form and every day new Labour immigrant voters flood into the Cities and Towns encouraged quite deliberately by the “National Government”.
Brown cannot be allowed to win and at the very least it is essential to gain at least 265 seats to block Brown`s attempt to vote himself an electoral system that will make himself invulnerable
What about asking “… not what your Party can do for you , but what you can do for the Party “

If you seriously think Brown is a better idea then continue to undermine Cameron. “

So shape up you slackers and whiners or I `ll come round and slap the taste out of your mouths

Kill Kenny For Us Boris

A long time ago , incandescent with rage at the imposition on our Borough of another 13000 Council house units , I hatched a brilliant plot . I decided that as any semi trained Poodle could do a better job than Ken so why should it not be me..ahem I filled in an application setting out my vision and called the local Papers who gave me some coverage .I obtained the backing of the Party leader and Deputy leader in Islington and duly sent my submission of to the Conservative Party . They have not even bothered acknowledge the work or the local Party which I remain furious about but that in the past now .( For god’s sake they wrote to some people in Prison!)
I continued to write to the local Papers about the high handedness of the GLA and was with the greatest of difficulty able to extract an answer from Ken Livingstones office to the following question . “If I do not like what is happening , who do I vote against , the office answered “It can be very hard to know”. It was at that late point in my life that I realised that what I had always assume to be a benign working democracy was nothing of the kind . Something of the tone of the complaints which Ken himself eventually answered can be gathered from this letter which I salvaged

P Waglands letter 26.7.06 ( Gazette )is quite right to point out the insidious accretion of powers to the unaccountable Mayor Ken Livingstone .Crucially these proposed powers include greater influence on housing and strategic planning decisions which , as we all know , spells yet more `social` housing estates in our heaving Borough .
The problem however is not future Mayors as Mr. Wagland believes. It is the international embarrassment we have for a Mayor now and behind him the Labour Governments wish to hide its policies. Ruth Kelly `s defence of the `Mayor -on -steroids `she wants is an exercise in Orwellian double-think. .She claims the post has brought ` Decision making closer to the people of London` and given `clear accountable leadership `. One fairly gasps at the cheek of it. It has had exactly the opposite effect by removing freedom from our Council to act on our behalf
Tony Blair`s misguided policies have created a need for vast numbers of new affordable houses which Labour are determined to get built .As the developments become a reality Local resistance is bound to mount and Governments do not like their feet so obviously on the voters necks . `Regional` layers like the GLA are the perfect insulation between the voters and decision makers. That’s why they want to `Build on this success ` as the minister puts it.
Real accountability and access to decisions will only come when our Councils are given back the power successive administrations have removed .Then we might see some real democracy. As it is I can only conclude …`If voting changed anything they’d abolish it `. (Published 1987 Author Ken Livingstone)

How innocent I was . I had no idea then of the greater purpose of chopping England up into Regional gobbets but I was at least instinctively aware that the Mayor was a n assault on Local Government and local people .

Odd then that today Boris has thrown his hat into the ring . I have eulogised Boris before. I `ve met him briefly once or twice and he has been charming in the extreme . I used to be a regular on his web forum and met some people who I still like a lot( virtually ) . Steven L , Jaq , Idlex , Mel, Jack target Steven D Auntie Flo and many others . I still re read some of the great man’s article and admire his views as much as I admire anyone’s. So despite he fact that in a sense I disapprove of the existence of a Mayor at all if we are to have please let it be Boris . Ed has a link to his superb announcement and HG discusses Livingstone . Go Boris !

Lets Kill Kenny !!

Look Back in Languor (2)

You know in retrospect its hard to see what the point of trying to burn people alive ,at Glasgow airport ,was. They were, after all, Scottish people ,going to Spain , they would come back looking as if they had been bungee jumping into a volcano at the best of times…. Bum tsssssk

Is it true that when Annie Leibovitz asked the Queen to remove her Crown for an informal photo the Queen glanced at her full state regalia and politely wondered if the celebrity snapper thought she generally wore a ton of velvet , silk and heraldic regalia to watch Eastenders . Oh I do like to think so .
Isn’t she wonderful !

Has it struck you that some people who ought to be happy are not . Chief amongst them is JK Rowling, god she looks as if she just ate the marzipan revel doesn’t she . One likes to think that the second the front door closes she drops the modest pose and dances down the hall shouting “£600,000,000” I `m so rich it hurts before bathing in champagne. Otherwise what’s the point ?

A word on the EU . In the UK in 2005 , tax free day fell on the 31st of May .In the Eurozone tax free day does not come until the 28th of June. In the US it is on the 11th of April.. Hint hint …

The Labour government always talk about devolving power to the regions . Power was already devolved , to local government whose powers can be varied by statute Law. Regions are sucking up power to the government and away from the electorate.. God I love them ( in the sense that I do not )

…Why is it that Jeremy Paxman does satirical outrage in such a ponderous way. His recent outburst against the tie , worn he says only by politicians the journalists who interview them and dodgy estate agents was alright as far as it went but not exactly a soufflĂ© . Instead he adopts the manner of newly arrived alien dignitary with adenoids ( A Pizza you call it , and it comes in a box , preposterous !)……

Few men are as self obsessed as John Pilger who I am pretty sure (seriously ) has mid term Alzheimer’s. Love this ….“ On 5 June 1968 , just after midnight , Robert Kennedy was shot in my presence at the Ambassador Hotel Los Angeles “…..now that’s a name drop.

I have just listened to Alisatair Campbell breathlessly narrating his tedious diaries in the manner of Scott of the Antarctic“. On the third day we finished the dogs and began to gnaw on Browns gangrenous knee….it was tough…”. Did he ever stop crying ? Anyway I was reminded of an altogether saner individual .Mick Jagger recently pulled his autobiography because it was too dull . He had been paid a huge fee but he explained “, I was sitting around with someone talking endlessly about the past, lving in it , and I found it rather dull.”…. Micks still got it

And , have you noticed that Tom Jones , not only coughs for no apparent reason but over explains ..cue Welsh accent …” this thing here you see, its called a microphone ..it a amplifies my voice …makes it louder( cough) , so you hear it louder where you are than the way I sang it see (cough)….produces increased volume …etc. ad nauseum”

GM protesters got the wrong field and planted 1000 organic potatoes so as to render the field unsuitable for a GM potato trial . The actual trial took place miles away..Tee hee. A bell ringer had to be rescued form the belfry by the fire brigade having held onto the rope at St John The Baptist Church Lougton Essex …comedy trombone ….

An interesting thought is that having one eye Gordon Brown has no stereoscopic vision and thus no perspective . Does he think Hazel Blears is just a long long way away ? It seems likely .Bum Tsssssk

That was the second of the Look Back In Langour series

The Dream of The Super State

You cannot help but notice the implacable certainly of those behind the European project , that the means justifies the end . We are clearly not to be given a referendum on such small matters as no longer having our own foreign Policy and equally clearly our Government has been complicit in an ongoing attempt to disguise from the British what is being done . That much is clear form the attitude of other countries to the so called treaty which they have announced gleefully as the Constitution by another name. We can understand , with great difficulty , what and how they are proceeding but the crime lacks a motive . I wonder if the British are easy to fool precisely because they cannot imagine that anyone would want to cease to be a country ?

British politicians have one language for Europe and another one for home . We rarely hear the spring form which a drive for Super Statedom comes but an unguarded moment it can leak out . Wim Wenders , the German film Director made a speech to the European Film Academy recently and it is quoted in the New Statesman at length . Here are some selected quotes and bear in mind there is no sense whatsoever of anything controversial being said . I hope it gives an idea of the motive behind well meaning Europeans and its utter irreconcilability with the integrity of Great Britain.

Witness One Wim Wenders

1 When I was a boy the idea of Europe , the friendship between Germany and France , and the even more utopian vision of a United Europe set my imaginations soaring
2 Why was their never a European version of the American dream isn`t it time to start dreaming it
3 When I was young and I lived in a country that was embarking on a new future, a country that had just been readmitted to the international family of nations …At the time I would have preferred to be anything rather than German( Perhaps that is why members of my generation find it so easy to be European patriots )

There is much considered comment about the way that American culture has predominated and a theme of a United Europe being able to use its domestic market to rival the American Film Industry “
My little country my endangered language my local culture is being protected by a bigger power.”
Overall he sees the EU as protecting European culture and rivalling the US. He seeks to find a way of giving Europe a Soul which , he says , would have go the Constitution through. Here is a central statement ..
“ An en-souled Europe would not have rejected its Constitution on the contrary it would have pushed it through. “

Wim Wenders is entirely oblivious to his assumptions . He is clearly a well meaning man in his own lights but what does this consist of . Firstly displaced German aggression and guilt and more in the text than the sub text. Fear of Globalisation especially the US model and envy of American success are present. He also mistrusts nationalism and emphasises local culture . This is the conclusion

“ This certainly involves preserving social justice , safeguarding peace and freedom and preserving human rights and fighting to restore the health of our sick planet. But in the coming age this cannot be achieved by economic means alone . If Europe is to prove itself to Europeans it must define itself through..the wonderful chaotic unique diversity of its culture “

That is the problem . We in Britain are not a selection of statelets to fit in a new Hapsburg Empire . We are a cohesive country with much to be proud of and we are neither Green obsessive nor Socialists . We are closely linked with the Anglo Saxon culture and feel far less threatened by America .Most of all we area country not a collection of “ chaotic unique and diverse cultures.”

Witness Two Norman Tebbit

Mrs. Draper Serves a Mugging For Breakfast

What on earth got into Kate Garroway this morning?! The unexceptionable clothes horse that blandly wafts me through my coffee ( after my run and Porridge ) , was attacking poor defenceless David Cameron like a rabid hound . Again and again she interrupted him , not when he was waffling which he rarely does , but when he was reasonably trying to give his view of her altogether silly questions . Her fixed point of view was something like , its all very well moaning but Gordon’s in charge now and he has to make these decisions . I have noticed recently that the prevailing left wingery of the British Socialist Broadcasting Company does non stop at the levy ,it floods straight over into the independent sector . Confusing? Not really. Large companies operating with government licences are, if anything, more beholden to the state than their direct employees.

Interestingly there was some evidence of coaching. David Cameron quite correctly pointed out that everything Gordon Brown has presented as new is in fact the result of up to ten years development and has already been announced. He also quite correctly commented that the supposed cabinet government did not apply to cancelling the Super Casino . In leapt the rabid bimbo ,her fangs bared ! “Aha” she cried “So you complain when its new and you complain when its old , he can’t win. !”.
In fact this remark was a dumfounding non sequitur which clearly puzzled Boy David , heroically maintaining his sang froid . It is however a view expressed in the New Statesman and it is a view we might expect one Derek Draper to hold .
Taking little interest in the News of the Screws I have Mrs N to thank for this insight....

Kate Garroway is of course, Mrs D ( For Derek) Draper .

Derek Draper has a ignoble pedigree of flunkyism and fellow travelling. Employed for years by Peter Mandelson, He became a lobbyist and set up the New Labour organization Progress. He is reckoned to be one of the brains ( cough ) behind New Labour. . In 1999, he was working as a lobbyist for GPC Market Access, and in this position he got involved in the usual Labour sleaze concening business access and influence. As an Express journalist Draper was allegedly receiving prior notice of important Government decisions. It was also alleged that he was able to have an undue influence on Government decisions. by an Observer journalist, Greg Palast.. Draper was much derided for his boast that "There are 17 people who count in this government. And to say I am intimate with every one of them is the understatement of the century." Dezzy boy himself having gone nuts when he lost his preening right and now he writes weedy gruel about therapy in the Mail.

What did the famille Draper chat about over breakfast this morning I wonder? It seems highly likely that this amiably fatuous presenter was wound to a pitch by her lefty loon husband . There have been signs of his influence of late locally . Kate was involved in a fracas at the Town hall about an extension for which they did not have planning permission. Naturally the Drapers feel themselves above the law and have claimed celebrity immunity with much wailing and weeping. They live in what is called the millionaire square in Islington , the largest patch of undisturbed mouthwatering Georgian property in London . Prices there are eight times the level of the Caledonian Road Estate some yards away. It was then , in these salubrious surroundings that Kate and her Loon Lefty burn out basket case persuaded themselves that they were , between them ,serious journalists and decided to try to mug David Cameron. Naturally it did not work but what a complete fool the bimbo made of herself . I hope there will be some disciplinary action . I shall be complaining later today. My suspicion is that Draper is trying any means he can to Brown nose and his recent creeping bears it out .

“Former Labour “insider” Derek Draper ultimately defended Brown’s suitability for PM; his behaviour was merely part of his strategy to secure the premiership. Now he was assured of the job, Brown would calm down a bit”
Draper wants back in and Kate wants to help they should leave their canoodling at home if the Leader of the Conservative Party is going to be interviewed with the grace and intelligence ogf a Grange Hill pupil protesting about uniforms

House !

LONDON (Reuters) - The government announced a series of initiatives to boost the popularity of long-term fixed-rate mortgages on Wednesday in a push to make the housing market less vulnerable to interest rate swings.

Oh cripes what on earth do they know about interest rates ! We have just been selecting a mortgage and we have gone for a three year fixed rate . Our thinking is that if by any chance the rate has gone up steeply between now and then most people are so highly geared there will be a revolution and it won’t matter any more . If you were thinking of following our example I should warn you that Mrs N and I have along history of getting almost everything wrong. Experts judge stupidity to have been a contributory factor.
I noticed the Mail went with a Home Buyer crisis front page rehashing all the old worries about the earnings lending ratio .The problems young people face and so on.
The solution soi disant is to concrete over the South of England thus equalising supply and demand but I see two problems .

1 Overcrowding is caused entirely by immigration and cheap housing will only suck in more.
2 The existence of lots of property noone wants will not affect the market .There is already market dumped property all over the Inner Cities . East London and South. Flats can be obtained for £50,000, easily whithin the grasp of anyone with any right to be thinking about buying . Of course these are not salubrious areas but then will the new soulless concrete jungles be any better . I doubt it.

Family Misfortunes

With David Cameron aiming the "Family" Howitzer into the “equally valid lifestyle “ Left I have been thinking about justifying giving the traditional family special treatment. I stress that we do not start from zero .The disincentive to remain together is high . A couple on £18000 per year pay a penalty of £8588 per year of their pre tax income when they live together. Even a couple on £50,000 would be more than £7000 per annum worse off . It is entirely beyond argument that children in two parent families fair, far better, and as only one in twelve married couples part within the first five years of a child’s life marriage is obviously key. For unmarried couples that figure is one in two .One in two!

The subject goes deeper than that . When I look around at the nearby estates I am escaping from, it is more than the absence of fathers and work .There is a sort of moral hopelessness that sets in and what a lot of the better off do not realise is that in this stony ground there are lots of good seeds. The forgotten decents as they are called often work even though it makes no difference to their income .

It is as if abandoning this basic unit of the sub state society attacks the whole like a cancer . When people talk about feral children they are using hypoerbole but there is something in it .Un-socialised children are verging on dehumanised at times . When you read of a gun killing about some sexually motivated pecking order( Honour ? ) it isn`t just the crime but the mental world you enter that is so terrifying. A primordial world of sexual display and primitive unattenuated need.

This has nothing to do with the working classes .It is an under-class but not defined by income . Indeed ,a single mother working seventeen hours a week collects the equivalent of £35,000 per year in state goodies . Grey market income is almost universal and skilled deception of the system a hereditary profession , Council premises are frequently let-on informally while the couple reside in one of the other of their homes. The nearest equivalent I can think of is a sort of parallel society like the gypsies .

There is , as I mentioned ,another side to this . We are currently living in a country where the indigenous people are simply not reproducing . They are at a rate of about 1.3 which is a population implosion.. At the current rate we are headed to a another 20,000,000 in these shores over the next fifty years . That is entirely immigration and the progeny of recent immigrants . If you subtract form that “Indigenous “ figure “ those collecting benefits we can see that a part of society is being destroyed as surely as Stalin destroyed the kulaks. Figures like this cannot , of course, be extrapolated in any such way but nonetheless the face of the country is changing far faster than anyone is aware. At this point a certain element will shout racist but that isn`t the point . In a society with no ethnic coherence social policy becomes impossible and a Liberal society at all is under threat. This is statistically true around the world and if questioned I can quote from Cash Nexus

In Iain Duncan Smiths report there is much discussion of how sorting might effect the stark figures and it is not as simple an argument as the Mail , for example , pretends. Polly Toynbee wrote a cogent attack on some of the single mother assumptions recently that has a place in the debate.. We should also not imagine that a change can be effected with no pain to anyone. It must be gradual and careful gathering support along the way . I see the reintroduction of property owning and capital schemes for the poor as part of the picture along with educational improvement . Without involving as many as possible in the solution the numbers will defeat the project.

I thought this story in the Irish Independent summed up the moral corruption that state hand outs engender

Couple got €30,000 in benefits for dead child
AN English couple have been jailed for six months for claiming more than £20,000 (€30,000) in benefits for their dead child. Benjamin having died in 2002 - two weeks after his premature birth. They even chased up the Inland Revenue, saying they needed the money for Benjamin. More than £13,000 (€19,000) was handed out in child and working tax credits alone.
The fraud finally came to light in 2006 after the couple moved house -. At Isleworth Crown Court last week, they were both sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

Day Dreaming

In one of those "How to be successful", books ,which obviously I would not understand ,I read that you should write down all your ideas. I never did ,but perhaps I should start. I mean the small light bulbs that pop into existence as you stare whey faced from the tube into the dark vortex , I have them all the time. Yesterday's crop for example….

IDEA.
It occurred to me for example that you could write a good play called “The Chain“. As I may have mentioned we have sold up in Islington and we are taking the next white flight to Lewes Naturally we are involved in a chain . In fact we have been involved in two ,the first having imploded due to at maggot fantasist. My idea was this. At the beginning of the chain you might have a first time buyer a young person ,or a retired person trading down. In the middle as the size of the property goes up, you meet the gradations of English Society who , I have discovered , are immediately recognisable by class right up to the seriously rich. They are linked by this chain of property , which has implications for society ,and yet they are at all other times separate . It would be a comic and bathetic treatment of archetypes and they would have to collide somehow . Where to take it I don’t know but the examples of disparates thrown into the dramatic crucible that immediately occurred to me were “ An Inspector calls “,” Stagecoach” and “Canterbury Tales “… Worth a short story ?

IDEA

I have always hated what shampoo does to your hair . It makes it all silky and floppy and I don`t like it . In fact I don’t think many men like it as we see from the industrial strength gel on the loose in the average changing room nowadays . So…why not have a Shampoo called something like “ Soap Texture “ , leaving one’s Leonine cascades fine and upstanding, but with the masculine scent of Leather car Seat. I `ve got the advert and everything.

Soap it Sort it Use it
Any good ?

I have always been a day dreamer and I stare out of the office window now much as I did from the class window years ago. So much time has passed,so many small ideas?

Women Waste Money

An interesting perspective on the proposed easing of the tax burden on married couples in Guardian comments is free

“Provided tax breaks for married couples are extended to people in civil partnerships, the Conservatives are right to propose them. The more interesting question is whether a financial incentive of just £20 per week will encourage people to tie the knot.
I doubt it. On this meagre incentive a couple would take 15 years to save the approximately £16,000 cost of the average British wedding”

Two points here . Why should two gay men have a tax break? What are their special responsibilities exactly eh ? I lived with my brother in a flat on the Essex Road for about five years ...yes we had a great sex life but no , not with each other. What is the difference ?They like to fornicate , we liked to play squash occasionally . Is one hobby better than the other. I `d love to know why this conspicuously well funded section of society is getting a free ride.

Secondly the ridiculous cost of wedding s is entirely the fault of women. What man really wants to spend a fortune on his “Big Day” and nowadays you can forget her lot paying.
Isn`t it time that women got over their Princess fixation and gave men a break.
So there you are ;good news for the married man ,but if you think hard enough you can still find a reason to moan about gay men and women.

Campbell Shows A Glimpse of Real Labour Ankle

Campbell Allows a Glimpse of Labour Ankle

Now I know its adding to the misery of the nation but I cannot resist a couple, of comments about the self infatuated Campbell kiss and tell. I have for a long time argued that the entire Blair Government was founded on the lie that there was ever a “New” Labour . Newspapers love change naturally, it gives them something to talk about . They are also written by people who have never done anything and are uniquely impressed with image . That’s why the commentators got “ New Labour fundamentally wrong in this sense.

After the clause four moment at Blackpool did the Labour Party really change ;well how could it ? Would you suddenly change your innermost convictions because a smily snake oil Salesman came up with a plausible shtick to cavort with for the electorate . Not bloody likely and the same applies.
The corollary of this knowledge ,that Labour has simply remained Labour , tells you all, you need to know about the power of the so called Blairites in the Party. As we have seen for the Deputy Leadership contest, the Party wants tax rises , redistribution , out of Iraq and the whole kit and socialist caboodle that Gordon Brown was not pressed about by the fawning BBC. Right wing Milliband , who by my standards is a dead eyed revolutionary communist, was never going to run , he is nothing internally and his elevation is for the country not the activists .

How was Blair able to retain control for so long ? Firstly he was far left of his appearance shifting GDP to 45% GDP into state managed expenditure over ten years but chiefly because he ceded control of domestic Policy to Gordon Brown and went off to play abroad . The crucial moment was when Gordon Brown mobilised back bench support against Frank Field and `thinking the all too bloody plausible’ became the theme. Blair was only a partner from then on and wounded in the country in Iraq his defence( The voter) was gone . It was only a matter of time the until the real leader of the Labour Party , Gordon Brow, took over.

Campbell’s diaries bear this reading out . We now know that there was more than one threat of a coup and Blair in 2001 had to threaten to withdraw support entirely to avoid being deposed. Campbell will not give the Conservatives a gold mine but he tells us there us one there , and it must surely revolve around tail-wags-dogerry of the Brown Blair relationship. We know that Blair tried to demote Brown and we know he considered leaving early in frustration. Blair in other words lost to Brown a long time ago.

So the leadership contest was a show trial and the Brown accession has begun in lies. The Labour Party have maintained the narrative that there was a Blair Party and there is now a Brown Party and the media are once more rolling over like soppy Spaniels. This is an entirely different matter than when John Major took over and the calls for electoral legitimacy are well founded. Conservatives worry because although Thatcher supported Major ,to the astonishment of the Left, the fact she wasn’t there was in itself enough to placate the electorate . They wonder if Brown can work the same trick and make his bounce into a surge . As I have pointed out the rationale for his doing so is infinitely weaker but the Conservative Party cannot afford to let the electorate work it out for themselves . I would suggest referring to Brown / Blair government as I now do. Brown cannot side step his own record and the Campbell diaries are further evidence that Brown was always the spider at the centre of the web.

PS I did like the story that Mandy took a bitch slap at Campbell during a row about the shirt the leader should wear. Straight from Little Britain isn1t it ...god I wish he`d have a pop at me .....

Mimi Spencer Is a Man

I rarely bother with it but in response to my wife’s anguish I just thought I `d mention something about the aspirational cobblers that masquerades as writing in the Supplements. For god’s sake don`t ever support any Policy that requires the English to give up snobbery. Social housing , noone wants to live in it . Comprehensive education , we find away to differentiate and make the post code too expensive . Cheap foreign Holidays , we go surfing in Newquay with Giles and Tabs . Whatever the problem there is a classist approach and we will find a way to adopt it .
It is only with reference to this insatiable need for others to be beneath us I can explain the work of one Mimi Spencer who is typical of many more . Here is an extract from this smug mine , you can pretty much cut and paste it any way you like .
“ I am camping at the bottom of the meadow fully of maguerite daisies, heads bobbing amiable in the breeze, My children , their dizzy heads bobbing with daisies are a camping though the long grass…. My hair is in pig tails an arrestable offence for anyone over the age of six . And don’t it feel good …This , Raquel and I agree is the pinnacle of Summer dressing . For two women who spend such a large amount of time thinking about what they are going to wear… blah blah blah”
You get the picture the perfect lives of two perfect women and their perfect children Yeuch. These writers are usually the son or daughter of someone famous who may have had some talent Victoria Coren used to specialise in an infuriating dribble of what my trendy mates did and Sam Leith is not much better in the Telegraph.
Anyway Mrs N was complaining about the sheer self satisfaction of it all and to comfort her I reminded her of the magazine Jackie (“Jackie was a weekly British magazine for girls. The magazine was published by D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd of Dundee from 1964 until its closure in 1993. ) Note the location ,Dundee.
Jackie was religiously consumed by my sister eons ago and I used to have a peek here and there . I interpret as research but for all I know I narrowly escaped being gay as a June day . The stories concerned ultra smart girls of about twenty living , usually in their own pad , in Chelsea or somewhere in fashionable London. Watching a documentary I discovered that it was all written by local Dundee girls who knew less about such a glittering life than I do and lived wi` their mam . As the readership was under fourteen and provincial the imposture went undetected
So I am guessing that Mimi is in fact a salivating red nosed Hack who burbles any old tosh into a Dictaphone over a pint having a damn good laugh at the people who pretend to “Know the feeling”

The Doctor he said ...

DOCTORS

The thing that seems to have struck people more than anything about the Glasgow bomb was the fact that Doctors were involved. I distrust Doctors , if you are at deaths door they can be relied on to pull you through. You have to admit it did make you proud to be British hearing the plucky Glaswegians congratulate themselves on a good kicking being handed out . Three Doctors and no deaths ,..pitiful , Harold Shipman , one Doctor and 300 dead. We don`t mess around here in the UK. In any case they could have killed a lot more people by not washing their hands

PETE DOHERTY

Someone enquired as to who or what this cultural icon ( they say ) is . I `m afraid the exotic fruit of my ignorance has been exposed the inclement British cultural weather and I now have a rough idea . Like Kate Moss his earnings have been boosted considerably by public drug addiction but isn`t he just a bit fat for a heroin drug addict .

What does he cut it with ....a Hollandaise Sauce ?

FRANK FIELD

Long a hero of mine I like this stat of his . In the current tax system a couple with two children would have to work 100 hours more to get the same take home pay as a single mother with two children. Grrrrrrrrrrr.....

PICTISH HOARD

It has been remarked often that Brown would have got his act into gear a lot quicker if Chelsea had been flooded . Had Aberdeen been flooded the Scottish parliament would simply have soaked up the water with currency and sent England the bill....well they would wouldn’t they.

THE RACE CARD

A friend of mine has been in all sorts of trouble . He is a local teacher and had been accused of racism by a black teacher. The allegation is false and he demanded that his accuser come to a special meeting to explain himself . A full apology was forthcoming but not before some interesting details came out .
The witness said :
“ I `m sorry , I have obviously misjudged you but I heard you say in the pub we were right to stay in Iraq because we were ethnically superior”. In fact the words used were “Ethically superior “

How can any teaching get done in this sort of atmosphere “ I heard you in the pub ?”. I can’t see what’s so wrong with the first statement myself

Bright New Dawn

. I watched Andrew Marr , the Scottish socialist serve Gordon Brown gift wrapped delicacies to masticate upon at his leisure the other week with cold fury. Just ask the question any media lecturer might ask about he recent New labour Coverage on the BBC. Would a Martian have the slightest idea why it was that Blair was leaving so early or that Brown had attempted a putsch ? Would he have been able to tell the difference between the understandable sentimental treatment of Diana`s Birthday bash and the political coverage of Gordon Brown ? With difficulty .
I don`t object to hagiographic creepothons to “People’s Princess” . Personally I detested what she symbolised about the country but if it is balm for the scarred over rift between the people and monarchy in I approve. Some would say why bother with the fossilised remnant of an institution. I quite agree. Instead we might ask some sympathetic Generals if they would sponsor her Majesty’s direct and benevolent rule Yes quite so ; we should dispense with this silly parliament thing entirely . The building might be used for children’s trips like a Real working mine” , with “real MP`s “ now employed to have the same debate interminably .Naturally Government takes place elsewhere a. They said in Russia ,”We pretend to work and they pretend to pay us “. With parliament it has become “ “We pretend to care and they pretend to rule us “ . Of course Gordon has promised to change that. From his attitude to the disguised EU treaty and English votes we know he is lying .

The sight of Alistair Campbell explaining why is wasn’t the money that made him dish up his squalid career from the crypt before Blair was forgotten encourages me in the belief that we should take our grievances directly to her majesty. How Andrew Marr ( again ) can sit there and allow this squirming maggot to smear this meretricious emollient on the public is beyond me . Perhaps he earns his thirty pieces of silver after all . One can only gaze in slack jawed astonishment at an organisation capable of appointing Polly Toynbee as their social affairs editor and passing it off with Gallic shrug and moue. Breathtaking. You might as well have woman’s hour hosted by a man .It was in 1946 …ah the good old days eh

Then ,just as the sea of evil smelling soul`s corruption seems endless there springs up bright fresh hope form the heart of things . That hope is David Cameron. This week he pulled the bathrobe away revealing the disgusting old bruiser Brown is at PMQ`s .This morning his performance with Marr was magisterial. Naturally pussy cat Marr turned Tiger when dealing with our hero but his bias back fired . The harder the ball zinged down the wicket the more momentum Cameron had to use. He was quite simply the most accomplished performer I have ever seen .I am quite serious.

He is not in a position to repeat easy slogans his point is subtle balanced and yet clear. For example , he dealt with the accusation that he did not like single mothers with fulsome praise for the way they cope with a difficult job . He dealt with Brown’s acquisition of Digby Jones by suggesting how useful some of the advice he has given him in the past might be . He was delighted to be unable to support Brown’s not very mysterious reticence in taxing Private equity income….( Would you like to guess why ?). He was gemstone bright simultaneously wafting comforting pheromones towards moderate England . There was something new here though , a side we have not yet seen and that was when he got on to the subject of the broken society

It was here I felt my heart swell with pride as a Conservative sketched an overhaul of the benefits system and not in a vengeful but in a careful and sympathetic way . When he spoke of a multi generational task to “mend the country” you felt this was a man who meant it and could do it. I have always admired David Cameron but I can understand the frustration some have felt in the phony Tony war period Now the game is afoot he emerges as an inspirational leader.
You may sneer but people tell me they have had their “Cameron moment “ and this morning was mine . The moment you looked at him and no longer felt inclined to be cynical , when the burden of disillusion slipped from your shoulders and everything seemed possible again. With such a man to lead you and the talents of the British people why should anything be beyond us . Conservatives must choose to sulk in their tents or be part of the greatest story of the age …….

This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Religious Intolerance is a Good Thing

Browns Constitutional Reforms were , in my view , a mixture of window dressing and omission but I have been interested to browse the thoughts of Cramner and Caroline Hunt amongst others . HG picked up that “The Leader has refused to countenance constitutional reforms lifting formal and very real disabilities from members of the Catholic faith in England “ and this started me thinking about “religious intolerance “ now and in the past. I 1`m afraid I am back to the old tactic of posting something solid at the weekend and any old rubbish in the week.. So don`t expect a lot of research if you look in.

Reply to HG

What if my religion requires me to kill members of other "decadent" faiths or betray the country I live in . I think it is too easy to dismiss religious intolerance as absurd and we do it because we have forgotten what real faith is .When I read accounts of people from other times I notice that default belief in heaven and hell nested in an urbane and educated mind is almost impossible for the modern paradigm to simultaneously contain. You draw back in astonishment when a supersophisticate would nonetheless rather burn than spend an eternity in a hell that is as real as breakfast to him .The horror of Popery is hard empathise with now but we should try not to dismiss it as ignorant “prejudice” that loathsome and in this case anachronistic word

This arrogance of chronology is why the West has persisted in its misunderstanding of Islam. It is a misunderstanding of the nature of faith and that is why Liberal plural societies can only exist happily in a relatively homogenous cultural accord. There is no deal to be done and personally I would like to see more religious persecution rather than less albeit of a modern persuasive kind . Immigration is clearly a related issue.

We are sometimes appalled at the devastation to cultural artefacts wrought by religious upheaval and that is because we have come to see such things as having no function other than to entertain . To those who destroyed Catholic gaudiness they were functioning weapons of the dark one . I recall HG you were somewhat against the burning of books . I would be happy for all sorts of books to be burnt because they can also be weapons . Liberty and freedom , to conclude , are very much more nuanced concepts than Liberals would have us believe. The freedom of poetry is coextensive with its rules as is the harmony of music

On the Brown bits and pieces however I think they are probably only there to provide cover for the EU non vote , continued regionalisation despite the clearest rejection and turning Nelson`s blind eye to the problem of English votes . If the Conservative Party can get above 265 seats which I am, certain they will how will Brown govern in England . His laws will have no ....oh whats the word HG....they will have no thingy.

I imagine you may now be wafting elegantly in the mystic stillness of the Italian morning HG, brooding on the world’s troubles

Devo andare adesso.

In Praise of Boris

I made this comment on Mr. Dales Blog about Boris and the possibility of him saving us from ghastly Mr. Livingstone. As a couple of people seemed to like it I thought I `d bung it in.

I love Boris I dote on his every word . I `ve met him several times actually but it is the writing and the underlying Conservatism I relish.
Boris stands for a cavalier spirit , not in a frivolous way but in the sense of the Cavalier Poets who spurned ponderous earnestness seeking a rightness through the crafted nonchalance , lightly carried learning and the perfection of lyrical music. It was a political statement then and it remains so today. It undercuts the fake sanctimony of plodding earnest Brown`s persona ( in fact he is just a squalid liar). By his manner Brown seeks to close debate , Boris is plural and modest , fully understanding that most important Conservative principle that new does not mean better and that it is arrogant to imagine you can drive a living society like a car. Humour of a gentle sort is characteristic in that the ambitions of men will be judged against experience and the folly of “cleverness” revealed. In such a character you find One Nation Conservatism and Libertarianism resolved. There is no-one close to him is expressing the living spirit of the traditional Conservative attitude in all its contradictions and noone so instinctively against the new “NATIONAL GOVERNMENT” of Brown. I share his horror .
Islington Conservatives would be overjoyed but I cannot see Boris going to for it . It would be difficult to continue his career and he has no special interest in local politics .I personally would be happy to campaign for him day and night but could he win?
Well in many ways I would rather the Party backed a Conservative and made a heroic fight of it . It is said that immigration has been so fast that the Conservative task in London is sisyphitic but thats no reason not to try

New Plan

.I am going to write something about once a week myself and otherwise comment elsewhere as and when I feel the muse upon me.The idea is to rationalise my available time. I do not expect to be noticed much and that is ok. I will wriote something a bit more considered on Sundays and that is it .

Otherwise I will mostly be found on Dale .

Cannot Resist

I commented thus on Iain Dale and this blog is going to start sporadically limping along again ...( If anyone is intereseted)

Me On Brown`s Terror Statement

Lets face it ,domestic Policy has been run by Brown for years anyway . Who got rid of Frank Field , Brown did ( Thereby condemning benefits and housing to remain disastrously unreformed ) .Who fed the Public Sector like a bulbous prize marrow Good old Mr. B . He can get away with wearing any disguise in the Labour Party precisely because they know what clap trap this theatrical costume change is . He is an old style socialist and the rest of it is just spin.
It was interesting to see how inadequate he was when asked to do something without hiding and preparing like a hibernating bear for months . We were expecting something in the nature of a Prime minister and I was forcibly struck by the stark fact that the interregnum continues with or without Blair . Who did not think , “oh look there’s that spavined gimp Brown pretending to be in charge if the country” “…. then there was a shock of recognition …oh ummm I suppose technically he is .“
The instinct that we all have he should face some sort of electoral process is unlikely to trouble the incanting Labour Droogs hereabouts about for but for ordinary working men like me , a sinister clerk does not sidle from the shadows and thereby become Caesar . No he has to present his policies and become elected . The sensation was there for Major but because of the Party election and the lack of a broken promise to serve the full term it hardly occurred before the day or reckoning was upon us .
Until Brown stops pretending not to be one Gordon Brown , the lying taxing Stalinist weirdo of ten years warty standing and faces the polls, we have no leader . Even if he did , with Scotland clearly wishing to leave the little UK Party he has no mandate in England. In Southern England he has no votes at all. Perhaps we should accept him when the next Cockney is PM of Scotland . He is good at waiting .. So some eery butler who crept about serving up plates of quiet socialism while the young Master handled the media suddenly thrust out into the flashlights of the paparazzi. Disaster ensues. What else ?
It wasn’t that he was good or bad , he was simply not the Prime minister.
Having avoided any electoral accountability thus far we may a well wonder what traitorous gerrymandering he has in mind under the title “Constitutional reform”. When the BBC has quite finished its Coronation perhaps we might get back to the brute fact . Brown equals tax Scottish double votes and unreformed public sector money eaters . Same dank old Socialist cabbage water .
What he says is of no interest .He will say whatever he has to. The fact his Party trusts him is all you need to know .Look at what they said in the Deputy leadership contest. Consider their loyalty to Brown.
Not hard is it .Look forward to “Show Trial Consultations which will magically agree with what he wanted anyway . Look forward to an audacious attempt to rig the election All good men and women must come together to save the country from the plague of rule by a sightless etiolated night creature who hates the English the family the private sector and everything healthy when he is not .The monkey is gone , the Organ grinder is far more dangerous

Number 2 is Duncan Connors , see link on comments

"Well shit,

I only starting my blog as an occasional way to vent steam and have a pop at the more backward elements in society, but if you want to read the rantings of an overweight, balding, Americo-Franco-Scottish, Jewish/Catholic halfbreed whose wife earns more than him, then be my guest and visit my blog.

It is extremely libertarian and rather arsey and I suppose the only thing going for it is my 'being there/life at the hard end' view of the so called war on terror....the retired pension is great, but the training injury was bad I'ld rather play rugby again and screw the money!

Paul, how's that for advertising speel?

No. 7-IIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttsssssssssssssssss Muttley !!!

'I have a serious political blog and am noted in the same sentence with Guido Fawkes and Iain Dale...

This is true..

Honest.....

OK I do snatch and pussy shots as well as loads of porno links and crappy jokes!! '

And Now The End is Near ...........

Entertainers , snake oil salesmen and egomaniacs , all retire a few times so gimme a break . I really will have to call it a day on the blogging front for the foreseeable future. Its just too time consuming and my finances marriage and domestic arrangements need serious attention.
So now it is the end (stifles sob)..I admit I’ve made mistakes although I cannot actually specify when. I am humble and contrite and resolved to listen in the future . If there was any point to this blog , other than, calling attention to the cellular gorgeousness that be moi, it was this . Politics and its whorish handmaiden journalism, in fact the whole of public life , are dominated by a narrow clad of self obsessed , self appointed soul sappingly tedious specialists . They have never lived and so have nothing to but what each other has said . They inhabit a bizarre surreal cartoon of real life.
There is no better example that Gordon Brown, a man who denied himself sex until he was fifty . A freakish , terrifying cadaverous travesty of a man . A man who , like most of them , was chosen , not elected . A Scottish Socialist who is culpable more than anyone in the great migration of resources out of private and into public hands . This fairground turn whose shtick rests on idiot and idiot savant being indistinguishable to the casual observer. A deeply self loathing and fearful Bad King John ,who, in a process somewhat less democratic than the Norman Conquest ,now assumes the Throne . His political thinking and Marxist error are intertwined like copulating serpents but worse still his autistic magniloquence hides a cynical use of public money for electoral purposes. Via invidious regional grants and direct injections into the Smith slush fund into the New Statesman and PR lackeys from whose cooing sluttish cohorts he recruited the cardboard cut out Mrs. Brown . The mephtic nexus of putrefying not-very -soft, funding from the public purse was only partially disguised by Blair`s perfumed warbling. Now we have the beast itself frightened and snarling in the light .

In any sane environment the voter would be attacking him with pitch forks or running screaming from the room but in the rarefied public air he persists. He continues his lizard eating mouth breathing progress because he is surrounded by other fearful verminous meeja infestations who ,deep inside , know , that they know nothing . I notice by the way that despite a tremendous response at times I have been ignored by Lord “Ian Dale of Blogland “while other fatuous , apple for teacher , borathons have been garlanded with posies at every step of the way.
Bitter, you betcha !

BUT- I will be commenting around the place and the last post after this is one will consist of any advert for any blog that anyone sends me . I will put it up and it will stay there in perpetuity probably .

AVERTISE YOUR BLOG supply link if needed and any words you like I `ll try to keep it up to date . Otherwise this stay open only so I can comment elsewhere which will also be a bit occasional for a while

Robert Stitt, 48, and his rival were competing in a parking lot on Monday night when he tried a forward flip and landed on his head. "It was just two guys dancing. Everybody was laughing," Stitt's friend John Boxley said. Boxley said James Brown was on the radio and Stitt wanted to outdo a rival dancer, `- AP

'This is the worst.'

Reading this about the latest government project to fall into ruinous chaos I found myself intoning the words “ No worse , there is none”. You really despair don’t you

'The cost of widening the M1, Britain's biggest road-building project, is spiralling out of control with each mile costing more than £21m. The National Audit Office was called on last night to investigate why the price of the project has risen from £3.7bn to £5.1bn. The latest estimate makes the 240-mile project bigger than the annual economies of a third of the world's nations' - The Observer.

Sometimes I `m angry but at times a deep weariness overtakes me and I feel I am falling into madness

DESPAIR

Gerard Manley Hopkins was a poet who , for most of his life was obliged to slave at an unforgiving job which at time lead him to near suicide , his health was broken and he dies a failure . he was ‘discovered’ only after his death thanks to the efforts of Robert Southey and taken up by the moderns who were awed by his radical use of phonetic techniques and vocabulary. He is passionate poet and one with whom all we undiscovered geniuses can sympathiseJ. Noone has ever written so eloquently of despair …..

No worst, there is none. Pitched past pitch of grief’

NO worst, there is none. Pitched past pitch of grief,
More pangs will, schooled at forepangs, wilder wring.
Comforter, where, where is your comforting?
Mary, mother of us, where is your relief?
My cries heave, herds-long; huddle in a main, a chief
Woe, world-sorrow; on an age-old anvil wince and sing—
Then lull, then leave off. Fury had shrieked

‘No ling-ering! Let me be fell: force I must be brief’.
O the mind, mind has mountains; cliffs of fall
Frightful, sheer, no-man-fathomed. Hold them cheap
May who ne’er hung there. Nor does long our small
Durance deal with that steep or deep. Here! creep,
Wretch, under a comfort serves in a whirlwind: all
Life death does end and each day dies with sleep.

"The worst is not, So long as we can say, 'This is the worst.' " King Lear

One Nation of Opportunity

The question of social mobility has crept up on us as perhaps the most abject failure if President Blair’s ten squalid years of presentation . In the Speccie today Anne McElvoy quotes the now famous study showing that children born in 1958 were more likely to extricate themselves from disadvantaged beginnings than those born in 1970 . The New statesman in one of its many retrospectives sadly observes that the promise of Education education education “, turned into a reality of ,“Location location location”. This is an apt description of the false hopes some had for the super funded comprehensive system and the selection by wealth that it has become . I was pleased to see Chris Skidmore a friend and fellow North Islington Conservative in the Telegraph with at least one tremendous factoid . More Etonian boys gain five good GCSE`s including English and maths than the entire Borough of Hackney. Not good enough Britain ..see me ! Just as important are the half of students that do not achieve a working competence in English and Maths . How tragic that Labour have buoyed up their figures with the coarsest social selection leaving the working classes with nothing. How typical of the betrayal and cynicism of Blair
Conservatives sometimes see the answer to this in terms of voucher schemes Grammar schools and various other doctrinaire or nostalgic approaches none of which I am, certain will work today. Certainly the existing grammars offer no clues . The educational charity “ the Sutton Trust “ studied an area with 12% on free school meals and found that in the Grammar only 2 % were fed by the state . Hardly a motor for opportunity. Sadly it is the Labour Party that are considering following up the Brighton experiment with a lottery while Willets and Boris on team Tory are keeping their powder dry for now . I believe Conservatives must be bold here if they are to attract the working class support that thus far eludes them. Without it they cannot form a Government and they will not be truly national Party
Many years ago a red bearded Trotskyite teacher of “ Social studies “ explained the difference between the Capitalist and the Socialist ideas of society to me . The capitalists ,he said, see class as a ladder whereas the Socialist see class as opposing armies. Without the ladder operating tolerably well the moral case for Conservatism, is merely selfish and “ Libertarian” only in a nihilistic and inhuman way . The case for redistributive taxation is commensurately strong.
Cameron has been hazy and passionless here , and for all his achievements I believe he is making an error of judgement. To camp firmly in the centre he has to show he cares about the whole country and is offering a better way to achieve meritocracy and fairness Educational policy must be used as a tool for Social engineering and Cameron must take on the backward looking elements of the Party. He might start by not saying anything else like this….” One of the great things about this country is that it matters more where you are going than where you came from “
Yeah right Dave , we noticed . It isn’t only the working classes who are left behind , almost anyone who cannot afford Public school is increasingly excluded from top end employment especially in prestigious fields like Journalism and even acting .Judie Burchill trenchantly observed such glamorous milieus are “ .. full of middleclass Prats “ . She went on to say , “And they all have dyslexia which is another word for stupid “..I `m detecting resentment .
The phrase “ One Nation “ has physically repellent connotations of Edward Heath and whole statist consensus of post war politics in both Parties. Nonetheless One Nation we must be and as the problems of social division mount Mr. Cameron`s dalliance with Folly Toynbee`s caravan looks like a theme he must risk developing to me . I would like to see an explicit redefinition of the One Nation ideal for our time .

The Liberal Answer To Gun Crime

Meral Ece a Liberal Coucillor is worrying in pusillanimous Liberal way about gun crime in the Gazette . I am drafting a reply but it needs editing . Not for my blog though…ha ha I can be as long a bloody dull as I like . Not bad looking really is she , come on for a Coucillor ?

Families in fear as gun culture takes its toll( edited)

Meral Ece writes

YOU reported the latest incident of a street gunfight in Mildmay, the ward I represent ("Two men are shot in street gunfight", Gazette, April 19)…….I know as the mother of a 16-year-old, how difficult it has become to feel my son is safe while he's out or on his way home from school.………………………….. Being a responsible parent has got a whole lot harder! ………….a 13-year-old could get hold of a gun for the price of a pair of trainers, would have been science fiction! How are these guns coming into the hands of young people so easily?Introducing X-rays in schools has been cited as one solution, but I think we have to go back to what Tony Blair famously told us he would do, before he became Prime Minister - be "Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime". We have the highest prison population in Europe, so imprisonment is clearly not working. Little has been done to tackle the causes of crime. It's easy to dismiss this as "black on black" crimes, but they are British black children killing each other. Social deprivation and violent crime are clearly linked. Couple this with serious educational underachievement and unemployment. Black pupils are three times more likely to be excluded from school, more likely to be unemployed when they leave school, more likely to live in overcrowded housing.Given this backdrop, they are more likely to embrace the drugs and gang culture. Solutions do exist, but it means real targeted investment in education and employment. Black community leaders and families have answers in how to deal with this, but support is needed for this London-wide problem. - Councillor Meral Ece, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Mildmay Ward, Islington Council, and chairwoman, Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrats.

The Liberals Should Face Their Guilt

Coucillor Meral Ece has suddenly noticed the terrifying rise in violent crime presided over by her and her colleagues. Well done . Violent crime in the UK has doubled in the last ten years and is now the worst Europe .We can ignore Superintendent Bob Carr`s suggestion that the rate in Islington dropped over the “financial year” 2006 -7. Half of the Met took an average of three weeks of sick last year , only one in 58 Policeman is on the street and 56 people deal with 128 bits of paper to bring simple case to court. I think we would all prefer this failing organisation to waste less time massaging their image and convert more of our mountainous taxes into bodies on the street . As we all know you are more likely to know the local traffic warden than the local Policeman.

Ms. Ece rehearses most of the failed left platitudes that have disappeared elsewhere. Firstly she says “ We have the highest prison population in Europe so prison is clearly not working “ What nonsense we haven’t tried it .Measured by crimes we incarcerate less criminals than anyone else . In Spain for example for every 1000 offences they imprison 48 here the number would be 12 . If you commit a crime here you are less like to go to prison which criminals know this if Coucillor Ece does not .They also know there are no cells so their sentences will be even shorter than they were . . Whilst banged up they will enjoy a higher standard of living inside than is found in most old peoples homes . Prisons do work and they provide justice

Ms. Ece calls for resources for a “London wide problem” . It is not a London wide problem . This sort of crime is typically found amongst populations living on benefits housed by the rest of us ,usually in fatherless communities where employment is rare and 90% marginal rates of tax keeps it that way . The link between discipline work and reward has been fatally severed and the moral breakdown has ensued. Her Council is are conniving with Ken Livingstone to add a further 11000 units to this groaning Borough so Islington’s career as a magnet for problems internationally and nationally will continue . Uncontrolled immigration ,often illegal ,has flooded all the inner city areas ours included. Encouraged by the discredited and cancerous Liberal creed of Multi-culturalism ghettos form and the very patriarchal family values that sustained new comers are undermined and sneered at .Don’t blame everyone else Meral you stand accused of responsibility for the erupting violence.

Her prescription is “ targeted investment in education and employment”. That means robbing honest hardworking families of money to be squandered on criminals and their accomplices in the state for whom they provide jobs . Clearly she sees guns as chiefly as “ Black on black problem “ and thinks the answer is to treat black men as if they were not responsible for their actions . How dare she imply that certain groups are somehow incapable of moral behaviour because of their ‘income‘? White boys are in any case the poorest performing working class group educationally , so some of her ideas are plain wrong

Drugs Tsars , Respect areas , sixty meaningless criminal justice bills , re-habilitation and endless calls for more money but I `ll; tell you what you will not hear . Nothing about right and wrong. You can have ”X ray cameras in schools “, ID cards, helmet mounted cameras and microphones hidden in lamp posts all of which we are getting ,but no amount of state surveillance can replace the moral foundations of society . Prisons are for punishment and criminals are guilty not society . The cause of crime I would like to be tough on is Meral Ece and the rest who have made a living out of poisoning the spring from which the precious civility of this country and Borough flowed.
