Telly Tubby Brain in a Human Body (SUZ)

Diary Of A Nobody ( SUZ BLOG)
For light entertainment that doesn’t challenge the intellect I occasionally dip into the Liberal blogosphere . Suz blog
http://susannelamido.blogspot.com/ hysterical . This is taster of the Pooterish poor little-me isms she delights in…..

“Pity about the rain - the house was full to bursting.( Wow really ?) The first grandchild from both sides of his family they all turned up armed with bags of presents ( Hold the front page !). I had to leave early - his other grandmother (Natasha's mum) …( Not Natasha in London oh yeah I know her )and I didn't have much time to chat. She said that she would see me in a couple of months. Dozy woman I am sometimes.”
Sorry Suz that would be . All the time . Perhaps the single most astonishingly tedious waffle is her long rambling tales of how she is giving up smoking. Newmania , scourge of the dull and champion of the substantial felt a little corrective criticism might be in order.
NEWMANIA SAID
“I think this deserves wider publication . Opulently bound in leather it will seldom leave my side. You see I sleep rather badly and you have found the cure for insomnia . Bravo...and then I felt good ..and then I felt bad.. and then I felt better ..and then I felt a little worse and then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”
When she is not telling us she forgot to turn the iron off her political views are of this sort . She is delighted , yes that’s right delighted at the prospect of a state sponsored snitch scheme wherby neighbours inform on those who forget to recycle , fines and so on will follow
“Such a 'wicked' idea - if Camden or Islington were to ever set up a system I'd never be off the phone. Have no qualms about grassing up residents who continually dump rubbish and refuse to recycle. It's such an eyesore and most irritating.”
By strange coincidence I find her an eyesore and irritating not to say a busy bodying self righteous infestation . Well not really , as her ideas wander around like lost sheep it is fun trying to imagine what coherent political philosophy she might hold . Why not play this game with your children .?

They really are Youthless !!!!(read on)

Its nice to be appreciated, I have , for some time been trying to sneak ad hominem abuse into the Gazette and Tribune . Unfortunately those marvellous people always cut it out on the rare occasions I get anything at all in. I have discovered that by pretending to over estimate the age of a Councillor an apparently innocent expressions like “senior” , “well preserved” and “sprightly “ can be used to great effect. This was used against Liberal babe (ahem) Tyre-Tread Dunlop in the below letter , which incidentally deals with long term and utterly serious abuse of Consultation. “glamorously preserved”, they picked up , the rest got through. ….

At a North Area Committee meeting keen listeners will have overheard a splendid admission from veteran blonde bombshell Councillor Fiona Dunlop. The point was made that the Council , having consulted areas of Hillrise once on parking restrictions simply consulted them again within 6 months when the answer they wanted was not forthcoming.
The explanation for this was that other controls placed on Parking had increased the pressure on the area and under the circumstances the matter had to be returned to quickly .A bewildered resident , almost speechless at the absurdity was able to gasp …` But you made the problem ..`
Quick as a flash the glamorously preserved Mz. Dunlop replied . `Well … you might as well take that argument right the way back to South Islington but that’s the position we are in ` .
It is scarcely news that the Consultation process was so deeply flawed from the start .Nonetheless how refreshing to hear a senior Councillor with decades of service behind her , admitting this fact in public.
My heart swells with pride when I think of the plucky residents of Hillrise standing up to the Council for so long . They truly are the most magnificent people , every one of them .

As I like to maintain bile and spite towards our awful Council it is disappointing to discover the “remarkably good for her age “ Ms, Dunlop seems to have a sense of humour .Go on like this Fiona and you will have to leave that childish po-faced sanctimonious collection of hypocrites you will know as “The Liberal Party”

Tyre-tread Dunlop replies

I was told by colleagues and indeed, many officers of the Council about your letter, and may I thank you for raising my profile even higher! I do presume that was your aim (tongue very firmly in cheek!)? ;)
I would like to clarify a couple of points though, whilst sometimes it feels like have decades of service behind me, it has been just over 3 years since I was first elected to represent Hillrise, and again re-elected this year with an increased majority.
Anyhoo, thanks for taking the time to pass on the link. I will try to have a look, but am off to make Islington even better in a bit!
Best wishes,
Fiona

Awwww you could almost give her a hug . Lets not say she is evil . She is just confused and misguided , which , unfortunately is just as damaging

The Conservative case For Leaving Iraq

“. The Chief of the Army staff has, depending on your point of view, courageously spoken out on behalf of his troops, demanding their early withdrawal or he has committed a gross act of insubordination to his Commander in Chief. Much as I hate to agree with Soshlizt wukka twits at the station I would also like us out . Here are the Conservative reasons

. The US after, in effect, suffering another pearl harbour was bound to snuff out whatever rogue states in the Middle East they could. Discussions of UN legality and the effective causus bellum (WMDs) were a pantomime which even down to junior level was not taken at face value .The Conservative Party at least were well aware of that as they have since admitted on more than one occasion, . So was Tony Blair
The US is our closest and only meaningful ally, the main strut of international security and the power that has, in the last resort been our friend. We could, of course, behave like France, a legend for amorality in International affairs, and hide behind American power as the guarantor of security. Or we could support our ally and play an honest part in the real international relationships that defend Liberal democracy.

The key to this, by my reading, is in understanding both of the impact of 9.11 and the illusory nature of notions of legality in international relations (International law is a myth !). Servile news coverage mostly played along, focussing on what was ephemeral opinion management.I also think the lurking knowledge that this is the case is what so riles Liberals and other fantasists. The people they so despise, protect them as they protected Salman Rushdie (who sucks). This is a corpse under their tea table. It gives a rotting savour to the dainty hypocrisies they nibble upon and the querulous fury we hear in the fury of a child who knows he is in the wrong...
Once you throw away the veil (ho ho) it all starts to make more sense. The creation of a free and friendly Iraq was a laudable but secondary motive. We were there as part of our defence strategy in a wide sense and whether or not we could actually find WMDs at that time was not the issue. They would certainly have come.
In part, the US was taking advantage of a political window of opportunity to shore up its own security.
This dissonance between the real relationships in the world that are centred around NATO not the UN or the EU is why it is so easy to pick holes in play moralities that crop up . It resolves itself back to "rightness " in this way If Iraq had been a real sovereign state with real freedom then there would not have been problem in the first place ( With Iraq)
So far so good. Where, in my opinion we have gone wrong is in being tempted to play the major power on the world stage. We are no such thing and therefore have fewer obligations to do our bit. Some time ago we had done more than enough and should have set timetables for withdrawal that were achievable.Tony Blair would not tell this truth, he played his phoney hand because it's all he knows .Also he has (like other long serving Prime ministers) come to think of himself as a colossus on the world stage. All of this exaggerates our obligations to the point where we are risking British lives for the sake of "Looking important ". Nothing new there. You might put it this way. He has come to believe his own lies .I would like us out now and we would agree on this at least.
The core of my argument is in these ideas.
1 Continuity of international anarchy regularised only by ad hoc military accords and tribal loyalties
2 The strange language in which this is described for domestic consumption . ( UN baloney)

All of this by the way is why some of the Conservative Party are so furious that in backing the war they have been placed in the position of being liars . Some would have supported the war on the traditional grounds I describe. Not all though, and I believe it would have been a similar story had they been in power. I have only a limited sympathy for the Conservative position. "We would have gone to war for the right reasons"
Now, the young men and women are driving around in death-trap jeeps. They are poorly supported and used as toy soldiers. They should be home and safe as soon as reasonable practicable. They have ,as ever , performed marvellously despite scandalously inadequate equipment .

James Kempton howd`ya like your party now

Lib Dems join Nazis in Calderdale , and ,allegedly ,are doing the salute!

( not the best moment in Catholic History?)

A DRAMATIC coup is on the cards which could see the Conservatives ousted after controlling Calderdale Council for nearly six years. Liberal Democrat supremo Patrick Phillips wants to take over as leader - and he is prepared to form an alliance with the BNP to achieve his objective. His success depends on what Labour councillors choose to do. They formed a pact with the Tories in May to keep them in power. A vote of no confidence in the Conservative administration will be put to Wednesday's meeting of the council in Halifax Town Hall. The revolt has been prompted by controversial plans to close five village libraries. The Conservatives hold only 19 of the 51 seats on the council but all seven seats on the cabinet committee, which makes the key decisions. In July, councillors as a whole voted to keep the libraries open for the time being but the cabinet said they had to go.The Liberal Democrats hold 16 seats on the council and intend to take over the cabinet if their coup is successful. They are hoping to win with the backing of the three Independent councillors, the two BNP members and ex-Tory turned English Democrat, Paul Rogan.

This is the problem with the Liberal Democrats. They will say and do anything to grasp power and far from being the nice party they have long been the nastiest of all locally.Having no importance nationally they think they can do and say whatever they like . Heil Hitler ! James Kempton.
Oh yes one of them is accused of performing a Nazi salute . Details to follow

STOP SMIRKING! THIS IS A SMIRK FREE BLOG AND I WILL REPORT YOU ON A GOVERNMENT SMIRK SNITCH LINE

Leaseholders used as cash-points

Councils use leaseholders as cash Points

About a month ago Simon Hefferlump accused David Cameron of “trying to appeal to anyone at all”. Oh calamity! I think he is communicating with the constituency Simon and his friends will know as “everyone else in the country “ . Clearly for Simon the effort has involved ditching what he feels are bare minimum Tory principles . Come on fatty , the Labour party sold their socialist souls for power and you can’t stand a little mood music….Any way Harriet Harman is obviously worried by the huge swing against Nu lab in London and has started to ditch a few principles of her own. ( In as much as she had any)

She is vocally supporting local leaseholders in her constituency !

I wonder , is she a late convert to the joys of private property , or is she saying anything she can think of to keep her seat ? Come on I `ll have to hurry you … quite right it is of course the latter .
Nonetheless what she says is what Conservatives have been saying for years in Islignton and worth repeating .

Hold your nose and read on.......

Harriet Harman said a breakdown of charges should be given and that Leaseholders are being used by one London council as a cash point, .The Solicitor General and MP for Camberwell and Peckham says Southwark Council is overcharging for maintenance and repairs. On the Clifton Estate the typical annual charge has risen from£500 in 2002/3 to £1,400 in 2004/5.The council whined that the rises have come in because previous prices were inadequate and current prices are true value for money but Ms Harman replied “Southwark does not give leaseholders a breakdown of where their cash is going.”
Councillor Steven Flannery bleated that the council did not have the facilities to give details of what the money was being spent on, but muttered that the prices included a recent rise in gas as well as lights, cleaning and door entry systems. He wept: "It is true that in previous years these costs have been substantially less but that hasn't been an accurate reflection of the cost associated with the services leaseholders are receiving.” It’s very much value for money and it is a fair reflection of the cost for us providing them.Ms Harman replied:
"For the council to say 'it is good value for money but we can't tell the leaseholders what it is they are paying for because we haven't actually got the details' just proves the leaseholders' point.. What's happening is the council is just using these leaseholders as a cash point - they're using them like a hole in the wall. There's 11,000 of them and every year they can just have a demand slappedon them - this is how much money we want you to give us."
Thanks to Brian Potter for bringing this to my attention. The Conservative Party will always be the only true friend the Leaseholders have and will help in anyway we can in their fight against injustice! Harriet Harman , in her party’s terms is “Trying to appeal to anyone at all”.

She does not ,and will never ,appeal to me !

Ladyman should be treated like a Ladyboy

Lady man I just hate you

And if I ever meet you we will have a chat about the nine points on my licence and the money your piggy bank highway robbery has cost me . What was that... sorry I can`t make it out with all the weeping

The world most infuriating man is at it again . In fact its like Birthday and Christmas all at once for me because he is taking further freedoms from drivers and it is of course an EU Policy. I’m so happy about it I could stamp on a rodent .. Or something
“EU Transport Ministers are trying to force us to use dipped headlights on our cars 24 hours a day. Yesterday, Layman told the Commons: A number of powerful states think it's a good idea.”
Two points :
Ladyman :Why when there is now conclusive evidence that the entire Speed cameras con does not work do we still have them ?They are an expensive affront to personal Liberty anyway and only an emergency (war?) would justify such an extension of the state . 5% of accidents are caused by speeding and they are 13 year olds in other people cars , wasted.

AND : Why is "it will save lives" trotted out again and again. There is no end to this argument and it is therefore no argument. Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of Tyrants; it is the creed of slave, I always say . Coincidentally William Pitt said it to

As far as the latest nonsense is concerned some very naughty people who I disapprove of had this to say

"The European Union want us all to drive with our headlights on 24hrs a day. They say this will reduce the number of accidents on our roads but is strongly opposed by everybody from the Friends of the Earth to the British Motorcycle Federation (BMF).Stephen Ladyman, the Transport Minister claimed that the proposals were impossible to avoid because they were backed by, "powerful European Countries", he is talking about Sweden! This proposal, intended to take effect by 2010, would increase carbon emissions by 3%, undoing much of the efforts of this country to reduce our impact on climate change."

There you go . I `m against the negative impact on climate change….(ahem) What a good little Cameroonian I am

Big hugs Dave
XXXXX
:

The people you meet around here

All of life can be found at Finsbury Park Tube Station
.. Or death in fact but I missed the recent shootings thank goodness. On the other hand I did not miss the petition being collected to protest against the government `stirring up Islamaphobia `. I explained the noble ( Soshlist Worrka ) freedom fighter that I did not consider it phobic to concern ourselves about the 80 or so plots Ian Blair says he is tracking. It is not phobic to recall the activities of Finsbury Park Mosque and it is not phobic to notice the ambivalence within the `moderate ` Islamic community not to say the council of British Muslims, towards terrorists
I might have gone on but by that time I was apparently a racist and I could beep beep etc. I am not; large parts of Islam unapologetically are however
This morning I witnessed an argument in which a shopkeeper abused what I took to be a thief, in a rich sub continental accent. `Go back to eastern Europe ` he said before turning to his colleague and continuing in the language of his birth. ` Damned rubbish` he confided finally
I found this amusing and I have a horrible suspicion that in some way this means I may not be as free of prejudice as I had hoped. My wife certainly points out my failings in this regard frequently .

Lydia Rivlin. Can I join your fan club ?

Lydia Rivlin,Deputy Chairman (Political)Tottenham Conservatives.

I have never met this wonderful woman but sent a brief email in appreciation of a superb letter she had in the local press. She was kind enough to point out that my blog -bit on my father’s trial was unreasonable and unfair in parts. This was out of a pure generosity of spirit and I have come to agree with her.

Let’s set the record straight then:

Lydia you are right it is entirely absurd to expect the Conservative Party to have supported a person who had broken the law. Personally I like to think I would have done so anyway but then Newmania PM is an unlikely prospect and I am not in a good position to be realistic about it.

Yes it is quite pointless to throw around insults at the Councillor in question .I am still allowed to be rude under the law but I am not generally vitriolic and do not wish to become so. Sorry about that

I very much hope to be able to speak to some of the Tottenham Conservatives. They seem a lively lot and it can be a bit lonely being a Conservative up here. Lydia especially is a fascinating character. Looking for a picture I discovered her web site. She is a writer, (I mean a proper one), and is about as far from the traditional Tory lady as I can imagine. There are some examples of her work on the site and a visit will reward your effort

Something drew me to this passage … perhaps the beauty of the imagery?

“Ladies, just before your man is due home, light a candle and let it burn until the wax starts to bubble and melt. At the same time, heat up an iron to maximum setting. The moment he comes through the door, rip the shirt off his back and kneel down in front of him……”

If you want to know what happens next have a look at http://www.btinternet.com/~l.rivlin/6writing.htm. I `m afraid it’s a terrible disappointment if, like me, you prefer gratuitous sex scenes to wry humour. For those of you who are not philistines, however, it’s very funny indeed.

There was no picture .

Australians Value Their Culture ( Sorry did I mishear …?)

This is a bit out of date but I had nowhere to put it at the time. Well covered by other bloggers , I `m afraid, but the speech was sent to me in the office

Australia lost its Temper

Everyone except the Conservative Party has been talking about immigration recently . Ruth Kelly demanded an end to political correctness supported by John Reid in a volte face of truly breathtaking cheek so I think we might risk a further word or two
One of the reasons that the subject out in the open is that the most visible form of migration is form Eastern Europe which makes it `not racist ` apparently to wonder where they will all live . Migration watch has warned that this fuss is misplaced and a distraction from the real problem which emanates from Asia and Africa, very true, and the fact that so many of the English are leaving is another more important concern . Business interests are overwhelmingly in favour of cheap skills possibly at the expense of domestic wages and even Poly Toynbee the high Priestess of Liberal cant has worried that immigration is hurting the poor . Sir Trevor Phillips has told British Muslims that if they want Sharia law they had better move so we can hardly move for political cross dressing.

Beneath the surface the email storm of Australian PM John Howard’s comments shows that darker forces are stirring. I `ll quote one of the milder passages …`this culture (Culture? this is Australia we are talking about?) has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! `

We need a sense of balance here but reasonable people are becoming a little tired of apologising for our own nationality.
Naturally we will express ourselves more politely than the colonies.

LIGHT RELIEF

I would like to show what a well rounded a normal human being I am . Well if someone who has done nothing but politics his whole life can manage it surely I can ( Hi Dave !He often drops in you know)). By way of light relief then here are some vile bits of doggerel I scribbled in the Park. All my own work as is the painting of Finsbury Park. No one else on the planet we call “Earth” would want to claim it.

Odds and Ends

PRISONS

The prison shortage is getting lots of space of course and I had this to say on the Iain Dale blog:
One problem no one has yet mentioned is that now all the long term mental health institutions are closed, most of those who were once the inhabitants end up in prison. This has been a disaster; on the streets, in prisons and now, outside prisons where real criminals will be left at large. The answer is simple, reverse this stupid and damaging policy by reinstating proper enlightened custodial mental health care.

There is a wider context to all of this which is a tax system that makes getting a job for some classes far less attractive than any sort of undetectable economic activity. Crime is not separate from other employments and decisions made about committing crime are as rational as any other .

Most criminals literally retire

.How badly we have been served by the Labour Government the Liberal elite .Amongst the groups to suffer are those encouraged to become criminals and the mentally ill.

TAX

Aha the first mention of tax. It is highly unlikely to be the last! They are test driving a property value based local tax in Northern Ireland . The progressive principle creeping into local taxes is a horrifying development . As we know the Liberal party are suggesting a local income tax and this version is an open invitation to Coucils to treat a few residents in large houses as cash machines.

How Labour must hate the visibility of local tax, so hard to quietly change. I have plans for an ongoing top ten invidious stealth taxes.Todays candidate is IPT ( Insurance premium tax) . This slithered under the door a few year ago and is currently at 5%. Its rationale is simple . Brokers and Insurers have to collect it ,so this cost, passed onto consumers, is entirely invisible . The tax itself gets overlooked and its clear anti social effect similiarly escapes attention. Thankyou Mr. Brown for actually discouraging people to Insure their homes , their liability to their employees or their cars. Can you guess what the marvellous reasoning was at the time? "We are merely cominginto line with comparable European counties " Words fail me .

That is the first mention of Europe and again will not be the last.I have hopes that local intellectual giant Jonathan Thurgood will be tempted to educate us all on the iniquities of the EU in this blog. Words never fail him on this subject.

A NEW GREENY KIND OF BLUE

I am not ever happy when I see the Conservative Leader appearing on the same bill as King Ken Livingstone. There they are though, both prattling on about "Plant a tree for London". I must resist the temptation to criticise the boy David, who I support, but he does talk some nonsense on enviromental issues . Allow me to explain

Yes the enviroment is a very serious issue . Thats why we need a serious debate and not a lot of green tinged posturing . Petrol in America is about one cent for a Lake Michigan`s worth. The emerging economies are growing exponentially and we are not in a position to tell them to stop. Taxing air travel at its enviromental cost would limit travel to the rich. Global decision making requires a global authority for which their is no imaginable democratic accountability . In other words tough questions have to be asked and until they are , to quote the wonderful Boris , we are "farting in a hurricane" . Incidentally those little green buckets we all have, were imposed on us by the EU. Shame on you for thinking our elected government still held the reins. The more you know the worse it gets.

FREEDOM

Following Straw man`s veil complaint , with which , ho hum , Emporor Prescott the corrupt ,disagrees . Janet Daley had an unusually weak stab at philosophising about "Liberty".I think I managed better today after a Troll attacked my beloved Boris site . After several obscene postings he was removed and to everyones relief civilised consversation resumed. We had been discussing tongue in cheek whether a certain Idlex was better than Shakespeare. With typical wit and self deprecation Idlex humourously "improved" on a speech from Hamlet. I posted thus .

How infinitely pleasant to be chuckling to myself, in my cosy nook, at an IDLEX contribution. Shakespeare has been "improved "many times most notably in the Victorian period when King Lear was famously given a happy ending by Thomas Bowlder. He has been considered a paradigm of misconceived politeness ever since but I feel strangely friendly towards him today:
To Bowdlerize
To remove material that is considered offensive or objectionable from [After Thomas Bowdler (1754-1825), who published an expurgated edition of Shakespeare in 1818.]
Where do you draw the line? Conservatism is about Liberty but also against anarchy, itself a prison, .Conservative debates often turn on this issue. Freedom is a more slippery notion than simple Libertarians sometimes seem to suggest and some order is , in my view; essential.

So there . Behave yourselves!

Is this Justice ?

John Newman,(the older chap),is my father and until recently the leader of the Conservative group in St, Albans and Harpenden . The Liberal Councilor who chose to make a "citizens arrest"is someone that I hold in less than high esteem. As I have proved myself incapable of being civilised on the subject I`ll leave it at that

This is how the Herts Ad reported the trial :

"Report:
A prominent local councilor was hauled before magistrates after he was shopped to police by a political rival for driving while disqualified John Newman, former Tory group leader on St Albans District Council, was spotted by LibDem councilor Melvyn Teare driving out of a car park after a council meeting while he was still under a six-month ban for speeding . Mr.Teare promptly jotted down the number plate and disappeared to report what he had seen to police.Councilor Newman, who is now an independent member of the district council, appeared at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Tuesday for what was originally planned to be a two-day trial John Newman, aged 70, entered a guilty plea to The court heard that after Teare tipped off the police, Councilor Newman was arrested at his home in Station Road. At the station he refused to admit that he had been at the council meeting until the minutes of the meeting were produced and he denied that he had been driving. When he was shown CCTV footage he said that he could not see it properly as he did not have his glasses and he would not identify himself in the video.

The court were told that... "Driving while disqualified is a very serious offence and we have also noted the level of prevarication."
Speaking after the hearing Councilor Newman said he was disappointed and added: "It doesn't do anything to enthuse you about justice. "

Introducing The Hypocrite !

There are some things that cannot be changed. They are shall we say `immutable` laws.

1Every time I open a wine box I squirt its contents on my trousers

2 Any England team in any sport will under perform on the big day

3 That our local Labour MP Emily Thornberry will ,and indeed has, wangled a place for her children at a Grammar school.

Why do we even bother to express surprise at this hypocrisy .What was Dianne Abbots excuse over in Hackney , that her children were `black` and would therefore be at a double disadvantage ? As it happens the only white person in my family is me and colour is not a factor when we consider whether we can stay here in the long term. Dianne Abbots `posh public school bolt hole is not an option.
This is just one of the many ways Labour and Liberal Council’s have contrived to squeeze the middling sorts out of Islington but the most telling. The schools are awful, inexcusably awful and it’s about time someone said so. Nine years ago Tony Blair was saying `Education, education, education ` what bitter joke. You can get an A level by spelling your own name but not an education
Look around you and what do you see? Barnsbury practically building a moat around its super gentrified Georgian area and by contrast rioting in the estates over the Summer. Does little Sebastian go to school with his neighbours , not likely ? Islington is the most socially divided Borough in London and the Coucil`s endless wittering about `community` is becoming difficult to listen to . I begin to doubt they care at all.
They will win again though , we rage we campaign we argue but with 50% Social housing and 70% of those on benefits voting in Islington will always have a highly unusual pattern. In end what can we do but join the mass exodus from London’s inner cities.

Stop and search is a step down the road........

Crowd watches death stabbing”, was the depressing headline and it seems that every week brings a new escalation in violent crime. Labour’s attractive Leader, Catherine West has regular meetings with the Borough Commander and has expressed concern about knife crime in particular.
Following the recent spate of stabbings the Police are asking for more power to stop and search .I was asked to comment as a member of the Conservative Party . I’m more used to people avoiding my opinions than actually asking for them, but to the Journalist’s surprise I gave an immediate response. It was “No!” and this is why .
. I have no inside knowledge, but I suspect Mz. West’s chats with the Borough Commander go something like this. She will say crime is getting out of control. He will reply “Now now my dear, my statistics show that crime is going down, thanks to my wonderful men .Thank you for your continued support and we’ll do a bit of liasing to calm the old dears down.“That is the M.O. and it continues for two reasons .One ;The Council have no authority here and, two; the Police produce the figures.
Recently there has been a long overdue call for compiling statistics to be taken out of the Constabularies` hands .Surveys asking people if they have suffered crime ,, when.. how often.... produce wildly different results from those emanating from the Met in particular. The Conservative Party have a raft of proposals to devolve real powers to local Councils, but right now its business as usual .
So, “Borough Commander”, I put it to you that you keep changing your story . When you are criticised, crime is falling .When you want new powers, crime is rising .Moreover, I put it to you that headlines are not a basis for new powers and you know it. I suggest to you, that your figures are unreliable and you are effectively unaccountable. I ask the jury to conclude that you need less power not more.
We need officers who are answerable to local representatives with independent evidence on the table .Only then can we tackle the spectre of fear that haunts the streets of Islington . Valston Murraiane`s tragic death could have been prevented but not by "stop and search" . We,the residents of Islington, need powers to stop and the search the police for possession of an ineffective deployment of ample existing powers and personnel. They look pretty damn suspicious to me.

We visit the shrine

Now that's more like it , I may be a bit of an eyesore myself but my son is lovely (I think) . This is him at Chartwell and who should I meet there but Greg Fox , dodgy brief and Liberal councilor, of this borough. He quickly pointed out that Winston was a Liberal as well as a Conservative . I said , yes but it was scarcely his finest hour was it , and did you admire his position on India ?

.....And so a blissful sunny day went on

I was thinking on Conservative writing recently having gone to see Anndrew Roberts speak with Jonathan T .. Tim Newark of Local Freedom fame was there . ( Tim has a book coming out called "The Mafia at War" I can`t wait to read it ) . Lets remind oursleves what great writing is.

",... we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Treat yourselves to the whole thing , its well worth it

Leaseholders Get Angry Now!

Leaseholders Need to get Angry !

Dear Sir

It was a polite affair at the Town Hall all things considered and for those of us who feel the leaseholders have been disgracefully dealt with, a rather odd one. You might think that a group of people, 11,000 strong, faced with demands for inflated bills, attacked for having equity, and at all turns frustrated and cheated, would be angry. They aren’t pleased true, but they should be an awful lot angrier.

For example they listened quietly while various absurd speakers tried to convince them that they were just another sort of Council tenant. They are not. Buying a Lease is a common form of property ownership, they are property owners like others, they just have the worlds worst landlord .Brian Potter said some very interesting things, and his role as the acknowledged expert is vital, but what is also needed is some, `We `re not going to take it ! `

Liberal and Labour politicians have never truly accepted that their status .Steve Hitchens wrote to the Deputy Prime Minister on their behalf, but what did he say? ` Land values in Islington are high and …the flats owned by leaseholders are now worth considerably more than they paid for them. It may be possible for leaseholders to realise some of that increase in value……. .In other words their money is on call simply because they have it.

It is constantly suggested that these hard working people have been the recipients of some sort of charity. Rubbish. Property values go up because people like them borrow money to pay mortgages. Without them creating wealth and buying their own places all the legendary value of Islington’s real-estate would not be there

Many of them are unaware who their real enemies are .Labour and Liberal councillors love their fat cat salaries and Islington’s unusual voting pattern is maintained by the housing mix. Social housing currently adds up to 48% of all housing in the Borough and 66% of the tenants are on benefits .Labour wants it to stay that way. They want leaseholders to fail so they can keep their jobs. Without Labour of course, what is the point of the Liberals? No wonder they are no help

The Government wants to upgrade the neighbourhood. Jolly good, so .£178,000,000 of taxpayers money is “borrowed “ .Leaseholders pay taxes like the rest of us, but then, in the guise of “Service Charges“, they pay again. How much of the £178,000,000 is actually spent on Kitchens and Bathrooms anyway?

I could go on, Section 20s are late, misleading and hard to query. ? Work is shoddy and over priced, responsibilities are vague and let’s not even get into the capping mystery.

There will be other times for detail but right now Leaseholders must step out of their doors and simply say, “ I will not put up with this “.If 11000 of them could focus their anger on the right people they might be surprised how much they could achieve.

Islington’s Conservatives will always be there to support them. So dig your heels in Leaseholders of Islington, help is on its way !
