Only The English are British
An eagle eyed letter writer in Her Majesties Daily Telegraph has spotted what is a telling bit of BBC propagandising for the Government . The politics show ( aren`t they all ) broadcast an item of Britishness , but guess what , it was not broadcast in Scotland or Wales.
Now I think it would take a heart of stone not to laugh at Gordon Brown`s belated conversion to the union which we can see from the direction of the BBC`s loud hailer is actually only designed to dissipate English nationalism. English nationalism is of course a problem for Herr Braun , Scottish and Welsh double votes yield 69 precious seats to the Labour Party who have progressively benefited from the Celtic fringe drifting away from Unionism in to nationalism. Now they want to catch the pendulum just at this point preventing the expression of English rights to elect their own Government just as the others do . There are various tactics
1 Force PR on England and negotiate a centre left alliance with the Lib Dems
2 Bang on about British values to the English whilst allowing the Scots to take more and more power preferably within existing legislation
3 Chop England up into EU regions
It is fairly amazing that the BBC is assisting with part of this tactic and fairly amazing that they can refer to the Scottish Government , the English ‘regions’ ( as they do ) and conduct this sort of propaganda exercise at our expense.

How Do Y0u Solve A Problem Like Sharia
Cassilis is always a good read although he is a bit of “Seeing-all-sides-and-must therefore be right “ merchant. I always like CS Lewis on this when he pointed out there are endless answers to a question until you know the right one and then there is one. Anyway, on the Bishop bashing issue he has pointed out that in a previous Church state row ( forcing Adoption agencies to consider gays ) those who are incandescent about Sharia law encroaching on the secular hegemony felt that religious considerations should take precedence over the states universal edict. I like the comparison because I think it takes us to the heart if what is going on here. I think Mr. C draws some suitably relativist conclusion. I do not . His post is the last and his address on the blog roll . This was my comment :
That is a good insight Cas I can tell because its exactly the one I had and this was what I thought the Archbish might have been getting at !.I recall thinking myself that the state aggressively interfering in religious voluntary arrange nets was a step too far
There are some differences in that the imposition of Sharia law would be controversial in a Muslim country whereas the Christian influence on the law in a Christian one is not.
Ultimately though ,this about the recognition of the ethnicity of the British and their right to have predominance in their own country .The outcry provoked by this ephemeral suggestion is a proxy expression of the betrayal of this ownership by the ruling elite who tend to derive values universally and care little for the particularity of the people . It is also an opportunity for the Labour Party to reassure its nationalist voters who are considering the BNP. So in many ways the Muslims who , by their fascist and aggressive actions have forfeited the PC cloak of darkness are standing for the frustrations on many scores . Meanwhile the real business of betrayal proceeds by the ratification of the Treaty by Liberal lies and Parliamentary manipulation .
Many, I believe , sense a terrible treachery is being perpetuated whilst being to busy to follow its awful details . This stealthy car boot sale of British birth rights is a dangerous way to go as Polly Toynbee points out . The fact is accomplished even as the argument is lost . 2 million foreigners working here , foreign rules imposed , foreign people , Germans and Poles telling us what we can and cannot do ?
Where is the electoral support for any of this ?

Letter Two
This week I have tried to reply to this irritating and rather prissily expressed missive from Coucillor James Mac Cleary (Liberal Democrat )
I think this is what you call getting your retaliation in first:
“Sad as it is to see grown men behaving like children the Tories managed it at our last meeting of the Lewes District Council.I will put my hand up and say that it was I who was impudent enough to dare voicing opposition to the Tory Motion.
I should, point out that their motion was based on a model circulated by their central office that was put forward by Tory groups on councils up and down the country - we were the only Lib Dem Group to amend it in such as way. You can make your own mind up about who was acting on orders from where .The Tory group was well aware we could not support the motion and was attempting to play politics with the issue .
My amendment said that instead of dividing the council down Party lines as the Tory motion was designed to do , let’s unite by supporting the idea that we need an honest debate on Britain’s membership of the EU , rather than a narrow discussion of the single Treaty.
Sadly the , the term ’honest debate ’ is well outside the Tory Lexicon. The result is that your district Council is now committed to asking the Prime minister for a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU. A discussion the Tories have no interest in because they are so divided they don’t have an answer .On the other hand we have a clear view . We support Britain’s membership of the EU but want to see far reaching reform of all areas staring with the damaging Common Agricultural Policy, to make the EU work better fro British people .
Anway having failed to force their motion through the Tories abstained in the vote so the amendment was carried . Once again when the issue of Europe arises the Tory response can be summed up in two words , “WE abstain”
As queasy mix of pomposity and mendacity as you will find on any Council anywhere and there is nothing that the Councillor says that is not a lie in one way or another . I have replied below and I hope this time the Pro Liberal Express lets me in . The bias of our local paper is starting to become really irksome. Liberal conspiracy eh , gets everywhere.

The Conservative Party is deeply sceptical of the EU and committed to this countries sovereignty. The lists of dead on Lewes War memorial demand no less . Within these parameters there are a spectrum of honest views about the countries best interests but that is a world away from selling out the people and the country with a cheap trick.

Letter One
As a newcomer to Lewes with priorities I expect to be illegal in my life time, the first thing I did was a quick survey of the local pubs. I`d hate to be rude to Lewesians so I will quote them directly…. “Its like a funeral …” ..,” It’s all died since the smoking ban..”…..and from a Landlord ,“I doubt we can carry on ….”. This he grimly opined as we sent elegiac whisps of smoke past that boon to mankind, the patio heater. Others regret the “Soul” leaving pubs in Hailsham where custom has dropped 25 % ( Express 6.1.08). Around the country there is an 8% fall in trade according to a recent poll. Working men`s clubs and Bingo Halls have closed quickly. Where there was happiness let us bring misery , they might have said .
The not very fabulous Baker boy, Norman, has been supine, having not voted on the bill and so here we are, suffering an imposition last attempted in Europe by Adolph Hitler, prior to the current round of health fascist bullying . Never mind , we smokers are a stoic lot and we have our heated patios to continue the fine English tradition of venting spleen on the weasels we pay for at Westminster . There is plenty of venting to be done as well.
For example, the Lib Dems have unforgivably reneged on their promise to give the people a referendum on our forthcoming status as Airstrip One of the EU -land . Once again Monsieur Baker , is in my sights. He disingenuously claimed he has “decided” to save Brown from his rebels by supporting the ratification of the treaty ,soi disant , which all sentient beings in the solar system know is just the Constitution in a poor disguise .Worse still the Independent reported (21. 1.08) that the Nick Clegg…Baker’s master, is already negotiating to trade power for PR at the next election. This makes a vote for them a vote for the oily rag to Brown’s engineer; well a couple of pints and I can get well into my stride on this, and you begin to see why they want to destroy the pub.
Already a seething cauldron of resentment ,conceive my joy upon reading that Fiona Hall the Lib Dem MEP is leading calls for a Brussels edict banning our saviour the aforesaid outside heaters . I daresay she thinks that every time you light one a Polar Bear dies , despite their increasing numbers , and the globe turns up to gas mark six , despite the stable temperature of the last ten years. Well on Global warming , or is it cooling , I’m a sceptic not a denier . On passive smoking I am a denier . Authoritative studies by the International Agency For Research on Cancer and the America Cancer Society showed “No significant risk “. The latter of these followed 35,000 people for 40 years . It’s a myth.
So here is my challenge . Can anyone find anything as aneurysm inducingly irritating than a Lib Dem Brussels busybody making you sit in bone freezing sleet outside your ruined pub for the sake of a trendy causes and fictional health risks . If you can I would say “just shoot me“. As I enjoy life I will instead say , just passive-smoke me to death . Should take about until the next ice age …..

I `m thinking of making this blog a weekly letter as I am going to be writing to the local Press anyway and I will be ignored usually. Also a locally based blog relating specifically to the Conservative party here . This will not be of enormous interest generally but I think I can maintain this lower level of commitment. Could do the occassional article as well....but it would be weekly and with a strongly local slant . Seems like a bit of flip flop I know but it isn`t really , the whole business of trying to provide daily entertainment is gone for good but it seems a pity not to use it for activites hereabouts

Another Goodbye Almost Blairy In its Self Indulgence
What seems like a very long time ago I fell down a virtual well into the Boris Johnson Blog. I was amazed at the new world and the new people I met. This evolved into my own blog via a protracted stay at Croydonians gaff . Last night I had a look and some of the things I wrote early on and I can see how much I was enjoying myself. I realised that I am not enjoying it any more. I have ‘new responsibilities’, due in May, work to do and, I hope, some real world politics. Its time to call it a day and this time it will be for the foreseeable future .
Blogging has been a great thing for me , I have met , in the flesh , Croydonian a fellow of infinite jest , Dizzy , Nadine Dorries , Boris Johnson , Devil`s Kithchen , Guidot , City Slicker , Nick Drew , Justin Hinchcliffe , David Allen , Caroline Hunt , Ed, Steven L, Tim Montgomery ,Phillipa , Jack Target and Iain Dale and all of them were charming . Virtual chums like Auntie Flo goes back to the Boris days and her garrulous idealism is still tonic for the blues , Cassilis very generously made the blog header, which I love .
Raincoaster , of course , Istanbultory , Peter Hitchens Miss Smack and the warm hearted harlequinesque Mutley . Elektro Kevin, a unique character. Appearing on Dale’s Blog and on Doughty Street was fun. Even Bob Piper adds something to my life , although its hard to put your finger on what exactly . I `m bound to forget someone , Hatfield Girl ,Lillith , Verity , Tapestry . ...many many more .I will still be commenting no doubt when I can`t resist but Newmania is finished.See you all around , thanks for the comments and support this time I mean it , I `m afraid .

EVERYBODY AAAWWT!
Unions; I`ve always had a soft spot for them because they are about loyalty and for a time they were heroic fighters were decent treatment (in the distant past). On ther other hand ,I support the Writers Union on the basis that with about 10,000 writers they couldn`t come up with a better slogan than " We put the storia into Eva Longoria"...anyway, the Unions are part of the fight against the Constitution and they are therefore my brothers.

Pick A Promise , Any Promise ...
The Lib Dems who promised to vote for a referendum on the EU Constitutional Treaty in the last General Election, are reneging . They claim they now want an In-Out referendum instead, but cannot table one in the Commons as an amendment to the present Bill. ( of course they knew this would be the case). This is a piece of sleight of hand , they simply know that as Eurofederalists in a Eurosceptic country they are in difficulties .
In my own area a plan for a new Incinerator has lifted the rock because the UKIP PPC wrote a letter revealing that months arguments to and from were entirely pointless the EU s stipulations on Landfill meant we had no choice. Norman Baker replied claiming that there were other options which has subsequently been dismissed by the local UKIP PPC. For Baker the problem is he cannot now represents himself as a localist and a democrat when it is all too clear he supports a Party who believe this decision should be substantially taken by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels . The details of the row are not important in a sense ;the whole subject is toxic for him as the supposed voice of local dissent
Clog should order his MPs to vote for the Constitutional Treaty referendum. The Lib Dems matter, as it is very unlikely the Conservatives can win the vote for the referendum without them. The behaviour of the Lib Dems over this bodes nothing but ill should they hold the balance of power after the next election. Every now and then you read an article and the words , “What the f…” sit on your lips like a soundless freeze frame. I don’t like Ken Livingstone. I don’t like him because he has been part of the Labour plot to flood the Capital with Social housing and immigration .The GLA was Prescott’s front in this, as well as enforcer and it is the centre of London`s new rotten City Hall culture . This is especially true of the “ethnic” communities with who he has a corrupt and mutually oleaginous relationship involving the dispersal of huge public funds . I did not ,however , see him as the libidinously soused Boss Hog of London even if his supporters behaved as if he were . I saw him as puritanically obsessed and catastrophically wrong .
I was therefore astonished to see Martin bright (a Brown attack puppy) claim that ken Livinsgstone was an out of control sot who cannot leave the sauce for ten consecutive seconds .That , at least ,was the sub text. He “ Needs a whiskey to get through Mayor’s questions “ ,. On receiving at People’s questions at Ilford Town hall he was deeply into the tumblers of whiskey ,( he claimed it was for medicinal purposes). This was at 10.00 AM !!!
Now you start casting your mind back this is not the first time his out of control benders have come to grief .

With nothing in the Piggy bank but IOU`s and a slow down shedding momentum, tax receipts are plunging so tax cuts are not possible for the left. Neither is Keynesian kick starting .
Brown has presided over a 30% increase ( adjusted) in spending but is doctrinally opposed to choice in health or education . His Casaubonish plans have failed .15 year olds have fallen from 8th to 24th in maths , 7th to 17th in reading . This was a snip at £77billion up from £29billion , up 55 % after inflation has been corrected out . We have not even kept our talents

The Full Brazilian
There is an amazing Survey in the Telegraph today which shows that more than half of women would leave their husbands if it were not for the money. 2000 Couples were surveyed and 59 % said they would leave if their financial future was assured. 37% were staying together only for the kids The survey was commissioned by Dewey Screwum and Howe ( Seddons) the Solicitors and I have no doubt they are trying to drum up business but it is still testimony to the unhappiness of the ordinary family under desperate pressure from taxes and Mortgages which is all they get from Brown’s “Growth

I watched Louise Bagshawe last night on Question time. Well she was ok , bright , confident a bit smarmy but faintly funny on occasion. It is rumoured that there has been a hysterical Tom Cruise rant about Scientology loose on the inter-web . It was posted up on Philipa`s Fortean Times site on the blogroll ... . I do not share the obsession with celebrity that seems to dominate much of the news but I was curious to see what on earth this scientology ,mularky was all about .
A quick dabble in the virtual pond and I think I have it . We are all immortals, or Thetans , who live for trillions of years, a period longer than the life of the Universe inhabiting many bodies .We would be happy but our past lives accumulate unhappy experiences , an inadvisable fashion choice in the mediaeval period perhaps , a rough suitor during our time as a Venetian Courtesan, who can say ,but rest assured scientology can help you unburden yourself of this ancient baggage and become ...like Tom Cruise.
There are other problems facing the adept though , look out for Xenu

Labour Blame Publicans For Failing Pubs
“Publicans should really learn to shut up whingeing about the death of their business due to the smoking ban or cheap alcohol from off licences. The smoking ban made their premises more habitable for the vast majority of people.” Says Labour Home ...who elseThis piece of profoundly misinformed hectoring arrogance are from Labour Home ( where else) under Tony Hannon’s ten ways to improve Britain. Well allow me to retort. Firstly 80% of pub goers are smokers secondly there was no desire anywhere for an outright ban and thirdly it is no business of the government to undermine institutions that in many cases predate Parliament.
In my own town Publicans tell me they are not going to be able to continue with the horrendous downturn in trade and in place like Lewes , our cultural and social life will be dealt an irreparable blow . Where else to the heterogeneous denizens exchange views ? No where. Pubs like churches are a vital components of our civil lives and the outrage of Labour’s attack cannot be forgotten or forgiven. Compromises were available for those who do not like the smell and as for the passive smoking myth that is precisely what it is

Boris Shows Sound Judgement.
The news that the ring leader of Garry Newlove’s killers, Adam Swellings, had only just been released from custody on bail dominates the Mail,and Sun today .It was hours later, that he ( and others ) kicked Mr Newlove to death. . Mrs Newlove`s remarks are magnificently focussed … .“The justice system does not do enough to protect decent hard working people." , she says , and ,“ Life should mean life, but the defendants would still be younger than her husband when they are released.”. ..
With 11 previous convictions, including assault, battery and restraining order breaches Swellings had been arrested a week earlier for punching a man who caught the gang damaging his car. How can the Police and the justice system have failed so utterly ? Well god forbid he should take responsibility but Brown`s hands are all over it .24 hour drinking , the creation of the no fault society and a justice system that cares nothing for the victim are his doing . Policemen never out of their cars ,a Home Office collapsed into tragic-comic inertia, and the maintenance of benefits slums are his campaign strategy.
I recall the bitter words of another bereaved women ...“'And I'm angry that Stephen is six feet under but the boys who stabbed him can laugh and drink. Their families can still have an interaction with them, but I'm never going to have that again with Stephen.” Doreen Lawrence ; as much a sufferer of social breakdown as Mrs. Newlove. She recently used her status to attack Boris Johnson, over his criticism of the Macpherson report . Boris was right though. The witch hunt at the time was part of a long process whereby the Met in particular has become more political than effective and the underpriveliged communites of London above all ,have suffered the consequences .
Boris has made crime central to his campaign. He is not a racist as everyone ,bar none, knows full well and he cares deeply about the debilitating fear of violence in the Streets . Ken`s campaign has consisted of getting his tax payer funded City Hall chums to accuse Boris of racism even going so far as to wheel out poor deluded Doreen Lawrence .This rubbish is wasting time when there are real problems like the tribes of drug crazed violence addicts that stalk the leperous orange night ? Jonathan Freedland of the Guardian does not get it ..
Today he commented on the Hilary and Obama race row .The provenance of phrases like”shuck and jive”, and the sub text of, “ It took a President to get it done ( ie not just Martin Luther King ) “ ,have been thrown into a simmering cauldron . Sadly he uses this interesting subject to drag us back to a boring one . Another reprise of the anti Boris ,Compass ,“racism” smear . He says the various sound bites are even worse in context which is an outright lie and repeats them !.
So Jonathan with 27 teenage deaths in London last year is this your contribution ….”ooo Sir Boris used a bad word when he was 6...sir sir !”, and you complain that no-one is interested ?
