Sen Goes Feral
You quote the IFS on the growth of incomes in the top 10% . I have no doubt you will recall that the IFS also predicted the new top rate will lose revenue …. Gordon Brown, again was certain this was the case for ten years , so what has changed ? Not the popularity of taxes on the rich, they are always popular ,as indeed are any taxes on ‘other people’. So either Mr. Brown undergone a coincidental Damascene conversion to the Growth potential of levelling down.. or this is spending our money on dim witted populist electioneering. Teaser eh .
What fascinates me is the way you seem to have convinced yourself that it was actually a good thing to utterly misjudge pubic spending because that means we have to borrow and print money which is “good” for the economy . Its like saying we could all fly if we kicked our own arses hard enough.
The Office
I work ,with two or three others , in a small serviced ofice. The view is much like David Brent`s “Office “ but over Croydon`s fly-over and roundabout . If you recall, the song,“ Glad rags and handbags “ , beautifully caught the quite melancholy of the clerical back water . There are some benches by the Thames where generations of gloomy City workers have have left a palpable imprint of sadness and yearning .Life seems so small sometimes We recalled Ken Russell’s film in which Elgar ,as a boy, races his pony over the Malvern Hills ( pic) ,the rise and fall echoed by the tumultuous swells and dying falls of his music ....
Makes your hair stand on end –said one
No that’s just gel – said another
Back to work - said a third

Oh the Shame
Brane Wave
Rage Against the Machine ( some young people ?) have had a thrilling idea which is to enlist anti Cowellite opinion to stop him getting the Crimbo Numero Uno . Sadly *shakes head* it is for their own sordid commercial advantage . I thought , good idea but why not steal it and do it for some good cause like buying me a new car ...oh alright children or old sick people or something . Charidee anyway I `ll have a go at some words later . Lets see Cowell , foul , bowel ...

When Johny Met Sally
If ever any beauty I did see,
Which I desired, and got, 'twas but a dream of thee.
“ A dream of thee”…. Donne has in mind Plato`s theory of love, in which eternally joined souls are split by their entry into the body, and soul calls to soul from within , when true lovers meet .It is then not just a meeting, but a moment of recognition, a coming home . From such ideas ,ubiquitous in English love poetry ,we inherit commonplaces like “The other half “ and “Soul mate” .English pop music in its yearning moments still returns to this deep well
“ You know I think I recognise you face but I `v never seen you before …
You gotta roll with it …” ( Oasis)
Thus in a pleasurable reverie on 'perfect Union ,I spent the train journey home to Lewes . My eye beam was yanked, however , to an interview in the Standard about John Bercow`s wife the would be Labour Councillor and CV fabricator Sally … She seemed…‘peculiar’ as old Ma N would say .What can one make of little John`s soul-mate ., hisn "Other half "
“…. "Oh, yes, we argue about a lot. He's still very Eurosceptic, I'm pro-European.
"I'm really keen on Harriet Harman ……(David Cameron ) "He's just a merchant of spin. …." Sally wishes to be a Labour MP although such gobby mentalists talents would surely be better employed on “I`m a celebrity” but I digress .How does that work then?
Whilst conjoined souls is a high benchmark is it really plausible that any politically commited Conservative could omit to smother such a prize prat with regretful but firm resolve ? On expenses she has a good story
“... their autistic son was disturbed by the heavy red décor. "It really did bother him a lot, otherwise we would not have asked ..." Ok I`ll buy that ( cough cough harrrumph …..) at a stretch ,but what about this …
“..evident dislike of Conservatives,( did she try to ) lure her husband to Labour.... "..but he's a Tory through and through." Is he now …?
I call bullshit . Not for the first time ,I am tempted to go and help Mr. Farrage . Sally`s car crash personality might add to the gaiety of a Nation ( which loves to see desperate z-listers humiliated), but if she is not going to eat Kanagroo`s penis and drown in cockroaches ..is it worth it ?
That Bloody Woman

I am still arguing with that bloody woman Gaby Hinsliff who despite being married is against marriage .Googled her, and guess what, she was "Political Editor of the Observer " . Not too bad looking really either in a faintly Hitler`s Mistress way. Once again she is twisting and turning and I have sought to tear the deciet from her worthless body ..or something ..metaphorically..........
If you know the facts then why do you write as if you do not ? One has to address the outcomes for children or be justly accused of deceit .You are complaining about a largely symbolic redress of New Labour’s assault on marriage , a nudge if you will .
You do not like it boo hoo , I have liked almost nothing New Labour and its camp followers have inflicted this last hellish decade in which Government spending has increases by about the size of all income tax . Get a sense of scale This clearly socially beneficial tweak addresses an environment New Labour have been tipping at 90 degrees to suit their unwanted progressive agenda . It’s wee a bit late for complaining about engineering sweety .
You want to to promote “stable relationships ” do you ? What on earth are you thinking of, state agony aunts compulsory courses in “Relationships ? I dread to think, ands its all too plausible. Its no business of the state’s to stick its snout into relationships only to promote public expression of them.
The relationship between ritual expressions of cultural preference is complicated human and not easy to map .Things that matter to Conservative often are ,... . Were we not already in a factory farm tax environment marriage would need no support but we are. We are all aware there are other strains ,what do you suggest , we continue adding to them? ( Genius at work )
Anyway you tell me , does your marriage mean nothing to you then ? Was it just a boring folderol , a childish pretence ? In your mind, is your husband a boyfriend you are yet to get sick of ? Did you detect nothing of the power of by ritual to speak to now, and the future, and to eternity , to enact the original Platonic meaning of “The other Half ," the soul`s mate .Why not read less “Lines to take” and more poetry ...but then why poetry at all .It could be logically expressed in boring bullet point New Labour Statistics .
....Our eye-beames twisted, and did thred
Our eyes, upon one double string;
So to'entergraft our hands, as yet
Was all the meanes to make us one,
And pictures in our eyes to get
Was all our propagation.
As 'twixt two equall Armies, Fate
Suspends uncertaine victorie,
Our soules, (which to advance their state
Were gone out,) hung 'twixt her, and mee.
And whil'st our soules negotiate there,
Wee like sepulchrall statues lay;
All day, the same our postures were,
And wee said nothing, all the day.
If any, so by love refin'd,........
( Bit of Donne concerning soul`s calling out and finding eachother ...I expect there will soon be a law against it )

Charlotte Gore
I was impressed .
Its More Than a Cake
..Only one in twelve married couples part within five years of the child’s birth for unmarried couples that number is ONE IN TWO. Got that ?
Fucking hellski woman ,we have had New Labour sticking its grubby fingers into every conceivable area of social engineering for ten years . This is a minor but symbolic reversal of Brown’s anti Marriage tax changes . No -one is disadvantaged and you are getting your knickers in twist , What’s the matter do you like children suffering ?...
ONS showed that children of single parent families are about twice as likely to have mental health problems .Children from Lone Parent Families are 2,.4 times as likely to smoke ,1.6 times as likely to drink alcohol .In the US 63% of teenage suicides , 90 % of homeless and 85% of juvenile prisoners are form Fatherless homes ( 70 % of UK young offenders coke from fatherless homes and again in the UK about the same proportion of young drug abusers . ...
What happened to "Wahtever w0rks "? Not when it stands in the way of New Labour`s loathing of anything they do not control
No Money ..Sigh ..What To Do..?
I`m having trouble writing this (see pic), but it looks like the recession is not all is not all bad. Women are Looking better...Beauty Products Sales of foundation and, er, false eyelashes are up 30%.L'Oreal home colour sales are up 7%,
Home entertainment-Online DVD service LoveFilm has reported a 40% increase in subscriptions since January,
Of course if you were out to Dinner you wouldn’t have to do the washing up ...
Word Of the Day -Pundit
*2 : authority, critic
The original pundits were highly respected teachers and leaders in India. Their title was taken from the Hindi word "pandit," a term of respect for a wise person that itself derives from the Sanskrit "pandita," meaning "learned." English speakers began using the form "pundit" specifically to refer to those Hindu sages as long ago as the 1600s. By the 1800s, they had also extended the term to refer to other sagacious individuals, and now "pundit" is often used with a hint of sarcasm to refer to informed opinion makers (such as political commentators, financial analysts, and newspaper columnists) who boldly share their views (sometimes at great length) on just about any subject that lies within their areas of expertise.
The Hopi Bashing Season ( Elven Safety )
Tolkein had a near breakdown when his American publisher translated Elven into Elfin. Imagine the temptation though.
Anyway back to bashing Hopi .Funding for health and Safety has been very poor lately actually , are you sure you are making the right case . You want more deaths don’t you not less?
By crass populism, ,you seem to mean incidents that resonate with people’s experience of the micro managing state . I speak as man who just volunteered to be Father Christmas by the way ( this very eve ) , for the PTA…. Ho ho ho ho ho , they said , not so fast there , they said .Many are the checks to be done ….” But you know me ?” , I said, echoing so many others . Idiotic of course but it keeps someone employed and lets the rest us all know who we work for .
I have no doubt you would like to keep the “debate’ focussed on the Health and safety Departments Promo Brochure and its New Labour stats . What about the 3000 Ilfracombe people sitting in front of giant screen of a bonfire ,the Torbay Palm Trees taken down in case they injured someone ( Compared to Tigers by the local Coucil), the clown told to stop blowing bubbles, Ms. Val Temple ordered to remove Robin and Miss Piggy cakes because they impied the presence of Robin and Pigmeat . Yes I have a thousand more but I can also quote to you my own experience of Nursery and School. which is, if anything, even worse than the headlines and ,my god ,the waste of money its obscene ! ! Ask a real person Hopi , just one !
You see its not just Elven Safety , its the whole bossy booted nanny knows best infantilising contempt for tax paying adults who though they were the dog not the tail . Most people Hopi are not interested where one ends and another begins .
The odd thing is that New Labour have themselves worried about it . Ed Balls demanded that children be allowed to face naked conkers . Gordon Brown asked the Better Regulation Commission to produce a more rounded document presenting Public Risk . Ah dear what happened to that ? Our own dotty Norman Baker is always on about the absurd results the big state he supports … go figure . It was the BRC who produced “Risk Responsibility and Regulation” . What happened about that Hopi ? You should know , what happened the realisation by New Labour that over regulation was harming our Economy . Not only that it is harming the human spirit .
Only in America would you get sued for failing to say your house was haunted , only in America would you get £1500,000 for tripping on unwept leaves or seek damages for a chair that makes flatulent noises except these are all UK examples . We seem to have invented a malevolent hybrid with the worst of the US litigious culture and the European bossy booted Bureaucracy as well .
AB ( a fawning accolyte of New Labour ) ,is confused , as usual .On the specific issue of Health and Safety at Work it is Statute Law ie Employments Legislation that informs the legal environment not general Tort . The Liability of the Employer is virtually strict Liability and might as well be Workers Comp as it in the US and elsewhere . It is a leap of faith I can only admire to suppose that the box tickers that pester Contractors ( who as you rightly say do the dying ) do any good , they are not there Hop old son, they GO AWAY ….. I can think of a thousand reasons why conditions have improved mostly driven by the Insurance Industry better technology (New Plant has a ten year turnover remember ).I can sell you a soft wear package which takes Employees and subbies through modules tracks their virtual signatures and ends up being giant Health and Safety waiver of responsibility . You have no idea , what goes on .I don’t think actual workplace conditions are the main issue here though , it’s the general sense that we are no longer allowed to think for ourselves , assume our own risks and be free responsible adults .
RIGHT NOW I HAVE BRUISED MY FINGER TIPS . YOU ARE TOAST HOPI SEN !!!!!LAWYER !!

Deep and Philosophical Balls
“The trouble is that architectural improvements ( of the Lisbon Treaty ) do not compensate for the grossly defective process that led up to the treaty.”
Damn right Davey boy, I thought, you have smelt the proverbial coffee .You cannot impose , by bureaucratic obfuscation, a project abandoned by Phillip of Spain ,Boney , Adol.. , ... and then I read on ..
.."..they both provided an ideal opportunity for continent-wide reflection and debate on the possible constitutional futures of the diverse new Europe...”
Do what? Are you saying that the most serious problem you can find in the mendacious elitist card trick employed to abolish the Nation, is the lack of an opportunity for you and your idiot friends to posture ? Gosh what a chump.. (or something ). Polly Toynbee claimed that a United States of Europe had been abandoned .Really ? ... Over to you Dave
“.....it is time for Europeans to escape from the conceptual box of the classical nation state, and debate... Europe of today is not a million miles away from the America of the 1780s”
Like feck its abandoned . Thankfully it will happen over my cold dead body, and as I intend to live forever, by sucking the life force from teen age virgins ,that means never . The effort to avoid the gaping Empirical maugh of the Socialist super state is a bit more like the American Revolution if anything .
This academic Don Quixote can no longer see the bleeding obvious . Europe is not a United States of anything and thrilling reasons why it might be better if it was are balls at a deep and philosophical level...
"I should like balls infinitely better," said Caroline Bingley, "if they were carried on in a different manner ... It would surely be much more rational if conversation instead of dancing made the order of the day.
"Much more rational, I dare say," replied her brother, "but it would not be near so much like a Ball"
Profundity provided by CS Lewis who quotes the above ( Jane Austen of course ) writing against Priestesses in Church worth reading
