Both Ends Against The Middle

That Sunny Hundal has constructed a superb site which I often frequent . He is however an infuriating individual who could pose for Europe . This little memo really gets my mountain goat. Get this … grrrr
The Conservatives can be ignored. Naturally they hate the unions but would also be split over their anti-immigration yet pro free-trade stance. So other than take lame pot-shots at the government they’ll have nothing ideologically consistent to say.

I retort…
.
Wrong . Conservatives understand and respect the old unions because , unlike you ,we both value loyalty . In any case ,so what ,this is not a child’s meeja game . “ Don`t worry about being unemployed ,Sunny Hudal has found a good anti Tory spin…” great . You have done nothing but attack this country a country which you are semi committed to in anyway . One of you “Many identities “ as you would put it . For some of us it is not fancy dress and we will place our fellow countrymen first before foreigners whether of not we disagree on the relatively footling matter of politics . The Conservative Party believes in free trade but not granting foreigners equal access to jobs home , welfare or anything else about our country because it is our country not theirs . Clear ?
On the Unions you can stick ideological consistency into your darkest fundament. Yes we disagree with the Unions holding the rest of the country to ransom . We entirely agree with their right to protect their members jobs from the vile internationalist schemes of the arrogant elite for whom they pay and on whose backs their pointless establishment lackey jobs are built .
These are people not gnats , they cannot ditch solid jobs for which they are qualified and uproot their family to go grape picking in France . Labour `s sophist chaterers have never understood that the working class is not one thing and much of it has highly skilled jobs which are as not transferable .This is what gives countries comparative advantages which makes free trade in goods and services worthwhile in the first place .
If I could be bothered I could quite simply make an ideologically consistent case but its hardly the point.

newmania...some people will never understand that and will always argue that it is anti immigration...blah blah...they don't have the comprehension to realize when you open all of those trades up you get what comes in and without those unions what you get is not what you originally thought...take a lesson from the US...when our trade market opened wider (for those who are like this gent) we got substandard materials, labor, etc...you get what you pay for...now they are trying to get BACK the unions...seems it was a mistake...don't think you all need to make to understand it as well...perhaps this fellow needs to read OUR history for a change...lol

I don't think I am a Tory then. I find myself thinking that this "British Workers" movement is based on some idea that British people are better than any others. I disagree.

I do not contend that my childen are better than anyone elses nonetheless they come first last and in between in any consideration becuse they are mine .

Thats what a country is.I apreicte the Unions are a conflicting subject in this context but I cannot have the workuing classes abandoned for an elitist empire`s sake

How is freedom of movement any kind of abandonment? This is the BNP fallacy. The single market makes us *all* richer. Free trade makes us *all* richer - even these romantic working class heroes you feel guilty about.

Is there any evidence that David Cameron's Tories share your views? It seems to me that they don't, given recent statements by the front bench on this matter.

Whatever you may think about these strikes, I don't see how you can keep conjuring up this image of the ideal Conservative, when Cameron & co don't conform to it.

I do not feel guilty about anything , I am sort of working class well lower middle at a pinch . \My parents left svhool at sixteen , my father was in the army has a tattoo . My aunt was the dinner lady at my school. I am not like you BE.
There is no such thing as afree movement of Labour it is an attempt to confuse the free trade in goods and services with the subject of immigration and sovereignty . People cannot transfer real jobs and skills ( Although I must admit the building industry has always been something of an exception going right back to the Masons and their international guild which built the Cathedrals ). Skills and infra structure are what makes free trade work , free trade in labour destroys exactly that . I would no more approve of unfettered international capitalism destroying his and communities than I would allow the to buy up Sussex churches and turn them into car parks because the market said so

Asquith I do not see that there is balance between trade , markets and protecting people . Any Conservative will be mindful of both but above all the latter. Of course its complicated in real life but then Clegg is still banging on about the Euro . Thanks god no-ones listening

Ahh right so because I went to a different type of school than you did my opinion is not valid. Well done N. Newmania, Newlabour.

BTW I don't think that people need "looking after" in your patronising parlance. I have faith in the human spirit, unlike patrician "Conservatives".

It's interesting to watch people's reactions in a crisis. I am assured day-by-day that I do not belong in either of the main parties.

Well thats a new sort of identity politics . Poor little Lord Fauntleroy..... anyway I went to a v good school.
It is not patronising to object to ordinary people and their lives being sacrificed to a bookish docrinal fad which in my view is ill conceived .
Its not as if the EU and its one size fits all edicts have worked well in other ways . This is one more . What was supposed to be part of a free market becomes a destructive assault on liveliehoods in real life because Labour can never be a free market

Are you seriously suggesting that highly skilled unemployed family bread winners should be told they can go and pick grapes in Southern Italy ?
Where are your Conservative instincts BE ? What about conserving skills and inbfra structure what about long term values the market is bad at?

You are like a highway robber who wehn his "guests plead that they will strave say " Aha I have faith in your human spirit , I bet you don`t ..FAREWELL ! AHA HA HA ! "

Poor little Lord Fauntleroy

Beautifully constructed argument there, N. Which side were you on in Crewe, again?

You know nothing about my background other than that which you gleaned from my accent. You are a snob, sir.

Newmania said...

I did not register any special accent BE I simply read what you had just written"I went to a different type of school than you ...." .I assumed you meant a better one ? That is all I know about your background .Furthermore just because I believe immigration should be controlled and our powerlessness to run our own country is regrettable does not mean I appreciate a racist campaign fermenting trouble against blameless Poles.

You are obsessed with your social status , I am indifferent

Up the workers!

Thank God you're back, Newms. It's been a cultural desert on the blogs without you, lad.

I've just been having similar thoughts on Tom Harris's blog.

"Some time ago, Dizzy pointed out that:

“Between 2003 and 2005 EDF Energy, 70% owned by the French state, donated a total of £43000 to the Conservatives and Labour. £31000 and £12000 respectively”

Dizzy also points out that EDF employ Gordon Brown’s brother.

http://dizzythinks.net/2008/01/silence-on-andrew-brown-explained.html

EDF, who are taking over swathes of UK’s nuclear power industry, are linked to Total:

“Electricité de France (EDF) and Total today increased their respective stakes in Total Energie, a company specialising in photovoltaic solar energy, to 50% each with the acquisition of the 20% interest held by the founders and management of the company. Total Energie will now be known as TENESOL”

My guess is that there will be a huge backlash against Brown and Mandelson for telling working people in UK, who are fighting for their jobs against the might of these corporate giants, to effectively get on their bikes.

Equally, I think there will be a backlash against William Hague for his mealy mouthed attack on these workers.

Hi Flo , yes I was aware of the EDF connection.I am going to do a ost about th EU later today

Newms, did you see my result on the political map test? Bottom left 1/4 and slightly to the right of Gandhi. Seems fairly correct when I looked Gandhi up.

It's true I am on medication right now but seem to remember that Blue thinks British workers in manufacturing deserve no better pay and conditions than Indian (and presumably chinese) workers. And apparently they read the sort of newspapers that attract ridicule and wear the wrong type of hats to garner any respect at all. Whereas people who do not make anything useful but carry a briefcase and think themselves very important deserve... ?

If washed up on a desert island I would much rather find myself with a carpenter than a banker or a lawyer.

I am from a family and an area that manufactures things. We make things that are useful and that in turn creates employment. Useful employment. We don't trade on peoples unhappiness, we make things. We have the 'wrong' accent and drive big cars. We don't call our parents 'mama' or 'papa'. "I do not feel guilty about anything , I am sort of working class well lower middle at a pinch" as I have two degrees but no longer work so I can't really be called 'working class'!

I was a are you were very academic Phillipa . I would say you were sort of shabby aristocracy.
Its intersting what you say though , we do have a culture that despises work and especially manufacturing .
