Spanking New Look

I have altered my blog to reflect the famous association of my new Town,Lewes ,with fireworks. It may be a bit busy , I `ll think about it . Meanwhile I have illustrated this spanking newness not with something denoting the 'new' but .......( yuk yuk)Here are a couple of funny stories .

Dumb Britain

'A lottery scratchcard has been withdrawn from sale by Camelot - because players couldn't understand it. ..players failed to grasp whether or not they had won. To qualify for a prize, users had to scratch away a window to reveal a temperature lower than the figure displayed on each card. As the game had a winter theme, the temperature was usually below freezing.... comparing negative numbers proved too difficult for some Camelot received dozens of complaints on the first day from players who could not understand how, for example, -5 is higher than -6.

'Tina Farrell, from Levenshulme, called Camelot after failing to win with several cards: "I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it' - The Manchester Evening News.

Not Cricket....(inevitably )

'A batsman was shot by a fielder. A row between the players allegedly led to batsman Francis Singh threatening to hit Devan Bascom. As Singh, 36, raised his bat at Bascom, 37, the fielder pulled out a handgun and shot him in the stomach, it was said. Put police in Orlando, Florida, say Bascom will not be charged. Sgt Spike Hoskins said: "He was defending himself from an attack with a bat and has a concealed weapons permit." -

The Daily Star. The message is clear; if your paperwork is in order, you can shoot who you like. This may be England's only chance in the Ashes.

very nice new blog - plenty of white space which is a good design technique, and of course, pictures of ladies smacking each other's bottoms.

What else to expect from a Tory? keep it up fella!

Um, sorry Paul but why the burning crosses - looks a bit KKK or is this a religious comment?

Exactly what I was just about to say, Philipa.

And indeed, WHY?

That's surely more lude than Lewes - the burning crosses, I mean, not the bums, they're anywhere and everywhere.

Ooh, don;t like them crosses, n.

the post about the florida man shooting the other guy brought memories of when i lived in arizona (just outside of phoenix)...in arizona you are allowed to carry a weapon concealed or on your hip depending on the permit you get...i went to my first bank there and a guy came up behind me with a 357 on his waist to wait in line...i decided to do my banking from the drive through after that...couldn't get used to it...kept letting people in front of me in all sort of situations...the grocery was a nightmare!

You can imagine what its like if you`ve never seen a gun in your life Daisy. In New York though Iu must say i founf the sight of armed Policemen reassurring

Daisy said...

newmania...it is a mixed feeling to see police with a gun...most don't use when they should (when i think they should) and others shoot away at the drop of a hat...i still stand by the belief if the police tell you to stop and you run...they should kneecap you...you will be less likely to run later and would solve a lot of problems in the states imo

Newmania said...

Thats a version of the Police that would not work here daisy. I take a relativistic view of guns. The presence of them does not cause violence in itself ( See Canada and Switzerland ), but here they are becoming a real problem.

The US has a gun culture we do not . I wouldn`t stick my nose into the way a country like America does things . What on earth , I sometimes wonder , makes so many people think they are qualiffied to opine.

BTW I am a great admirer of America . It may not be perfect ,( what country is ), but it is still , in my view , the shining hope of the world comnpared to the alternatives

the problem with the gun culture in america is that it necessitates the need for people who normally would not own a gun to have one...that is how most accidents happen...i learned to shoot as a young girl and hunted beside my father...
being raised with guns i am not afraid of them and have a healthy respect for them...it would have to be a severe situation for me to bring a gun into play...but if needed i wouldn't hesitate...i know that sounds bad...but it is true
btw...i don't prefer handguns but have two shotguns which give me a good scatter pattern and for some strange reason no one has broken in my home...in saying that i have been looking into a handgun as recently have been able to get my license for such and things in my area are to a point where i feel it is needed...you can only be stalked so long before it becomes tiring...

Be careful Daisy.. you will have quite a few offers of marriage with that sort of remarks form around the blogasphere. !

Daisy said...

newmania...when i can find a man who can handle his gun as well as i can handle mine...i will stop and take a second look ;)

I was in mid-conversation with a friend the other night when we suddenly came face to face with three hard police guys with big guns, just at the point where I was saying loudly: "And I bet they shave their chest hairs"... the looks I got were pretty terrifying, and I swear their fingers were twitching on those triggers.

I had been talking about Westlife.

Well that will teach you Merm. If I had been there it would have gone badly for you.
