Busy

The combined effect of an office move and a day straight from Reggie Perrin at a Business Continuity product marketing thingy have sapped me of the will to live let alone blog. ..

I too am moving mountains to accomodate two leather sofas and a new bed. It's amazing how much stuff one accumulates. I dread moving house.

BUT I still can't lift anything more than a couple of litres of milk but I HAD to put some stuff in the loft. I hurt from knee to bustline. Oh to be a big strong bloke.

You know, people think that whenever I look with admiration at a broad-shouldered fine example of the male species that I'm a bit wierd. Perhaps they haven't lived with an iron will in a porcelain body.

You'll bounce back soon I hope, Newms xx

Sympathies, Philippa. Similar plight! Have been laying 700m2 of turf...but also clearing the nettle/bramble/thistle-infested ground first...and we are on clay, so it looks like an African riverbed in a drought...
Hope you perk up soon, Newmania...
Competition on my site...do have a go, both of you!

Poor Newms, I know that feeling well, I've had a very similar feeling during a nightmare end of year audit of my company over the past two days.

But, take heart, the video below will give us the will to live again.

It's of American broadcaster, Glen Beck, speaking at the Boston Tea Party recently held at the Alamo. Beck speaks about why the Alamo is sacred to Americans and what it means for their Constitution and democracy.

If the link won't work, search YouTube for:

Hello Philipa, good to see you back! You obviously kept up your blogging fast for the whole...month?...40 days? How on earth did you manage it and was it a struggle? Well done to you! I'm sure I would have given in after a few days.

Philipa, Newmania, am I American? And I male or female?

Please indulge me and answer those stupid questions if you see them - thank you!

That last Anonymous post was me, Auntie Flo', Newmania and Philipa, I somehow messed up the name registration so I'll start again:

Are you still working, Newmamia? Poor you! I worked a number of late nights and long days during our end of financial year period...then that dreadful audit. I'm cock a hoop and in fine fettle now that's over - thank goodness.

That English Rose business was me, by the way - under another blog name :)

Thank you, Newms. I'm not going mad then.

I've been accused of being American and a man so many times on one American blog now that even I was beginning to wonder ;)

There are so many nasty accusations swirling around on the US blogs at present - all part of the GOP v Dem post election civil war - that everyone seems to be hit by the flack in one way or another - including me.

I might post your reply to the blog to shut them up if you have no objection to that.

I watched that Perrin program last night.
Mrs Q laughed quite a lot, having not seen the original. I thought it was a fine updating, despite generating almost totally negative reviews in the press.
I hope he considers canoeing away to Panama at some point.

Bingo, I cannot agree.

The whole point of Reggie was that he was a subversive who was forced by convention and the mores of his time to live a life unsuited.

Clunes is a likeable oaf, but his Reggie is clearly too everyman. The 'boss' is so inferior to CJ, it is a wonder they cast the character.

I bet you a good lunch that this will not be recommissioned for a second series.

I did not see the new series but what struck me about the first one was what a closed world the middleclasses lived in then . Nowadays the idea that someone would chuck in a good job wouild hardly be comic .

Flo - I'm with Newms on this one; only an idiot could mistake you for an american male. I can't understand why you're getting such comments. Every time I see Benn I think of you.

Blog fasting was good.

Apricotfox - hi, hope the turf laying went well. My small patch of weeds/lawn was bramble infested and I got a man in.. who charged me £20 to spend 20 minutes mowing it. Money for old rope but I needed it done NOW so he cashed in. The sofas are in and I hurt from toe to eyebrow. Hope you get chance to enjoy your lawn in some lovely sunshine. I'll be over later to do the quiz (I'm saving it for a quiet moment). Thanks.
