Chris Dillow examines Brown culpability for Le Crunch and in a reasonable post argues that the accusations are pretty gaseous; I rather agree with him . I doubt any regime would have averted much of this. This is ,however, less obvious than in the case of the ERM debacle where the Conservative Party were the only ones with doubts and that is the “political” point . Had the Conservative Party been immediately acquitted of the ERM stigma and Labour not profited from a debt driven boom then we might call it quits .
I would go further ,dewy eyed perhaps, I would like to think a Conservative administration would have watched money supply a tad more and it is also certain that a lower tax regime would have created more wealth .
Better immigration policy, combined with shifting the sick note 2,000,000 would have helped us recover sooner .The 800,000 joining the state payroll to look after the subsidised poor are a fiscal dead weight we could do without whilst drowning .Had Brown not largely borrowed to fund this splurge and instead raised taxes then we would have far more scope for direct help. Had we reformed the public sector it would not be the money sponge it now is ....and so on.
Chris makes good argument because it is a Conservative one . He says in effect that Brown was forgivably ignorant , not a magician . He was actually a little silly cork bouncing on a stream of events he did not understand .
Well yes ; that we may well not know what is going on is why people are conservative , that the state is even less likely to know is an even better reason. This hardly saves a big state control freak. who think he knows everything. RIP Bean
Epitaph
In many ways now is easy bit for Labour .They are no less popular now than before this unpleasantness began .When the stories are gone and the taxes have to be raised .When inflation is stuck in the system , services are cut and unemployment stubbornly staying up at 3,000,000 then you will see the true fall out . The toxic legacy for Labour has not even begun .

you will find a few recommendations about what to do about single mums inviting your comments.
(a) deprive a single mother of child benefit if she cannot produce a marriage certificate
(b) fine the single mother for producing an illegitimate baby, say £1000, if she does not name the father
(c) require her parent(s) to pay this sum if she cannot or will not
(d) fine the father of an illegitimate child a sum of money, say £1000
(e) require the parent(s) of that father to pay this sum if he cannot pay it himself
(f) require that the mother give up the child for adoption before more lives are ruined
Quite right.
A plague on our electoral system that allows the idiots of all parties to do or not do things for their own, rather than our ends.
Reducing public sector growth today would help a lot tomorrow. But Mr Brown said something like that to congress didn't he.. I can't quite recall.. it started to go a bit Prescott.
"We cannot..not.build..but tomorrow we will build another tomorrow, today. To plan for tomorrow, yesterday, was a plan for today's tomorrow.Building for today, yesterday is tomorrow's today..will be ready next Thursday all right.
Anderomeda - I would like to have along chat about turning your reactions into political possibility , if thats makes sense
Hi BQ sorry to be so serious , doubt it will happpen again
In the light of lovely What a blinder lovely Leila played today. Don't you just love that woman?
Thank you, Leila, for cheering us all up by chucking slimey green custard over arrogant Lord Slime himself - Mandelson.
At least if, God forfend, you're prosecuted you go down in the joyful knowledge that your gave Mandelson a custardial sentence too.
God help Brown if the Plain Stupid protestors ever catch up with him. The mind boggles over what non-injurious, slimey, natural substance they might feel appropriate to decorate his person with.
"In the light of lovely What a blinder lovely Leila played today."
Of gawd, sorry. I intended to say:
What a blinder Lovely Leila played today!
Apologies to the Kinks, but I can't resist this, just posted it on Jeremy Hunt's blog too, so it's a spam, sorry:
She stood outside his Office in Westminster
Where he drinks champagne
That tastes just like cherry ale, ah!
That's-aye-ell-ee-ale, ah!
Then she walked up to him
and she took her chance
He asked for her name
She said, "Have some custard
- I'm Leila"
"El-ee-i-ell-aye, ah!"
Well she's not the world's
most physical gal
But when she sprayed
green custard all over Mandie
He said, "Heya!"
"That's for the third runway, uh?"
L-e-i-l-a, ah?
She sang
If you'd have listened
To the people, eh!
Then Mandie you'd never have
Got in the way of, Leila!
She's gonna go down in history
For tryng to set the people free
She's Leila,
The green custard campaigner
Power to the people
Say's Leila!
And to the custard
Says Leila!
El- ee- i - ell - aye, ah!
El- ee- i - ell - aye, ah!
L-L-L-L-L-L-Leila!
Excellent Flo I just watched it
BBC appears to have cut a section of tape with Mandelson's face dripping green custard out of their online video. Have a look at the Youtube footage - some of the Youtube videos give wonderful close ups :)
