Another Goodbye Almost Blairy In its Self Indulgence

What seems like a very long time ago I fell down a virtual well into the Boris Johnson Blog. I was amazed at the new world and the new people I met. This evolved into my own blog via a protracted stay at Croydonians gaff . Last night I had a look and some of the things I wrote early on and I can see how much I was enjoying myself. I realised that I am not enjoying it any more. I have ‘new responsibilities’, due in May, work to do and, I hope, some real world politics. Its time to call it a day and this time it will be for the foreseeable future .

Blogging has been a great thing for me , I have met , in the flesh , Croydonian a fellow of infinite jest , Dizzy , Nadine Dorries , Boris Johnson , Devil`s Kithchen , Guidot , City Slicker , Nick Drew , Justin Hinchcliffe , David Allen , Caroline Hunt , Ed, Steven L, Tim Montgomery ,Phillipa , Jack Target and Iain Dale and all of them were charming . Virtual chums like Auntie Flo goes back to the Boris days and her garrulous idealism is still tonic for the blues , Cassilis very generously made the blog header, which I love .
Raincoaster , of course , Istanbultory , Peter Hitchens Miss Smack and the warm hearted harlequinesque Mutley . Elektro Kevin, a unique character. Appearing on Dale’s Blog and on Doughty Street was fun. Even Bob Piper adds something to my life , although its hard to put your finger on what exactly . I `m bound to forget someone , Hatfield Girl ,Lillith , Verity , Tapestry . ...many many more .I will still be commenting no doubt when I can`t resist but Newmania is finished.
See you all around , thanks for the comments and support this time I mean it , I `m afraid .

And that...is .....it ......

Giving up blogging is easy, you have done it several times already ;-)

newmania...i completely understand having new responsibilities and how that is going to affect your time...it has been a pleasure getting to know you and i thank you for making me think about issues which i have been known to put on the back burner...it is rare that i find someone who challenges me to think beyond the scope and you have done that...take care and i look forward to hearing from you on other's blogs...Lisa

Fair enough Mr N, I hope you won't give up your internet connection entirely though. Your blog has been a pleasure (and occasionally maddening) to read.

Your blog has slowly drawn me in until it is now the first I look at even before Guido, Dale & Cranmer. Now I am in DENIAL. Alas! Alas! Perhaps I shall take up smoking again.

Come now Paul - you *cannot* do this to your readership.

Cheers , no I will not be able to keep my mouth shut .

How depressing! I rely on you to keep me up to date with political developments and such like stuff... I hope we will meet one day Mr N! I only live about 50 miles from I think. Its sad that you are giving this up completely...

"This can't last. This misery can't last. I must remember that and try to control myself. Nothing lasts really. Neither happiness nor despair. Not even life lasts very long. They'll come a time in the future when I shan't mind about this anymore. But I can look back and say quite peacefully and cheerfully how silly I was. No, no I don't want that time to come hither. I want to remember every minute, always, always to the end of my days"

See you in the next life...I see you and your blog as a Doctor Who pastichel; forever taken away and yet mysterioulsy to re-appear when we least expect it.

Perfectly understandable, dear boy. I'm semi-retired myself these days...but am making a thorough nuisance of myself on asssorted American web sites.
I think I can speak for many when I say that we have all derived much pleasure from Mr Newmania,...

'Farewell, farewell, farewell, farewell', said the Phoenix, in a far-away voice.

'Oh, goodbye,' said everyone, and now all were in tears.

Brother Newmie went away
To do his bit the other day
With a smile on his lips
And his anti Gordon pips
Upon his shoulder bright and gay.

As the train moved out he said,
"Remember me to all the birds!"
And he wagg'd his paw
And went away to war
Shouting out these apocalyptic words:

"Goodbye-ee, goodbye-ee,
Wipe the tear, baby dear, from your eye-ee!
Tho' it's hard to part I know,
I'll be tickled pink to go.
Don't cry-ee, don't sigh-ee,
There's a silver lining in the sky-ee,
Bonsoir, old thing, cheer-i-o, chin, chin,
Nap-poo, too-dle-oo,
Goodbye-ee.

.....or maybe I should say hasta la vista"

You make it sound permanent you scoundrel - hope to meet soon - Tory conference in my home city of Brum?

Newmania said...

allo P ...I will be around but no more blogging for me .

By hook or by crook ...

Oh bugger ! Not another quality blogger disappearing into the ether.

In truth I expect you've grown and will be more prepared for real life politics - THAT'S where the difference can be made and we need chaps like you to do it.

Good luck.

Its family not politics EK... Cheers

Very sorry to see you go. Bet you Norman Baker MP will be pleased that you are shutting down because you must have been becoming increasingly annoying to him !

Well Done.

I would like to offer all you homeless commenters a berth at my gaff. I may not be as passionate as N, but my punctuation is better ;-)

Why Ed you are getting quite ambitious not very British

Old BE said...

I thought you would appreciate that!

Somehow doubt that you will stick to it - unless you vow not to turn a computer on. Why not just limit yourself to a weekly posting - considered and thought through comments usually have more impact than those made on the hoof.

Philipa said...

No I know what Newmania means - a weekly post won't do as you think about that commitment when you should be thinking about other commitments. Newms is in the sad/glorious situation of having nurtured a fab blog. To watch it dissolve into anything less would be perhaps a little sad for him?

We hungry readers snapping at every morsel of comment and political opinion probably wouldn't mind but... there will inevitably come the day when the occasional visitor will make that barbed comment that it's 'gone down a bit' and because of Pauls noble and worthwhile priorities it will have done, it should do, it must.

But I will be glad of any presence - blog or comment on my blog (yeah like that's going to happen!). I have learned my lesson and seen the truth of Pauls message and my responses have changed accordingly - what ever you decide, dear, will be just fine by me :-)

"Aha ,,, found a good new blog. Like some of this stuff it feels like to you are on top of the narrative ."

Who said that? Embarassingly (for me at least) it was you Mr Newmania. In fact you are one of the very few people that has ever commented on my blog - certainly in such a positive way.

I am embarassed because I am not and never will be in the same league as you - and certainly not as prolific.

So, whilst I thank you for your kind comment I am very sorry to see you depart the stage - especially while some odious little toads (like Chris Paul?) continue to tread the boards.

You will be a great loss to those of us that actually enjoy being stimulated and enraged at the same time to the point that we actually shout at the screen!

Enjoy your "retirement" but I suspect you'll be back.

Cheers

What happened? Did you say something Peter Hitchens didn't like? I do that all the time, and he's never sent the flying monkeys after me!

You'll be back. You love it, you know you do. You've had more comebacks than Cher at this point!
