In De `Nile

I have been teasing poor old David Boothroyd who said ....

Sorry to break the bad news to you, but Gordon will be back in come 2010, with a bigger majority and a strong mandate for his vision, a vision that more people are buying into and uniting behind, every day up and down the country

In Denial

When the ship that could sink began a-sinking
Some of the Party simply started drinking
As the icy water lapped
Up their trouser legs and spats
The chance of playing bridge that night was shrinking

When Vesuvius disgorged it molten lavas
Some Pompeii-ans didn`t change from their pyjamas
They watched the others flee it
But they simply wouldn`t see it
To bad news they remained distinctly averse

To die by being eaten must be vile
So keep your distance from a crocodile
I knew a chap fell in
And while that gnawed at him
He said “ Its lovely “

He was in de `Nile

Great Larkin quote.

Part of my favourite Larkin is perfect for the wee little man too.

This Be The Verse

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

That was lovely.

I have just had a satisfying rant on my own pages about poor literacy in our country.

Sadly I don't know very much but appreciate good prose when I see it.

Nu Labour is based entirely in De 'Nile - the British electorate have been in De 'Nile for ten years now.

Under straight man Brown we have washboard government - no spin setting. No change in quality of service, just that now everyone can see the skid marks aren't being washed out.

I have cruised down De Nile Daisy and it is the experience of a lifetime , quite cheap too. You have to try to do it some time

Ah, sorry, it's the Danube? Did you watch 'Goodbye Mr Chips'?

My verse offering:

Why Dorothy Wordsworth is not as Famous as her Brother
(Lynn Peters)
'I wandered lonely as a . . .
They're in the top drawer, William,
Under your socks -
I wandered lonely as a -
No not that drawer, the top one.
I wandered by myself -
Well wear the ones you can find,
No, don't get overwrought my dear,
I'm coming.'

Thanks for asking Flo - I sorted the gas/eleccy bods out but the bank is ongoing. I've been having trouble with my vision and combined with bad headaches have been back to the docs but as N said, you don't get anywhere - I thought that was such a good post.

Someone made a recommendation and I've been doing some thinking and made a few changes which have resulted in my being much happier, I have to say.

I've started another degree and am really enjoying the work, even though the er.. housework is er.. mmn. I was obviously born to have servants and devote my time to higher thinking? Ha ha, it's a poor excuse I suppose but I am really loving the work, it keeps me sane - I'm just not one of those people who can find fulfilment in a washing up brush, ya know? Which is why we blog :-)

Thanks for your help in sorting out the gas people. Hope all well with you? How's your babe? I remember that post you did on drugs and thought it was excellent. Trust all well with you and yours x
