Through the Glass Darkly:

The Victorians loved Topsy Turvy( Gilbert and Sullivan ) and backwards thinking ( Through the Looking glass ) and looking at the fare on offer for the next elected prime minister they would havefound our misconceptions chortlesome if not " Good Enough For Punch"

David Cameron is supposed to be an image obsessed cynical operator who would do anything to get elected. How so ? He came to the Conservative Party with little hope of such early elevation with a plan for modernising . He was not an insider or a shoo in he was a principled outsider and the Conservative Party were desperate. He is the first Conservative Leader since Thatcher to see that change could not just be cosmetic. Labour call him policy-light but if it fools the Public it does not fool the Party . They know policies can be misrepresented and shelved what cannot change is the commitment you give to the public on the direction you want to take . Cameron has been clear . He wants an engagement with education without the baggage of Grammar schools, he wants Europe not off , but part of the agenda, he wants taxes not off but down the agenda , NHS up Community up Family up Social cohesion up , Immigration monitored , Environment up .Now we have heard Iain Duncan Smith’s Study and the trailed Redwood Business Competitiveness review , we have a clear picture of the balanced Cameron vision for business and life . Not everyone will like everything but you cannot claim he has sailed under false flag .

Now let us dive from the light into the obsidian murk of the “Honest Public Servant WYSIWYG Gordon Brown. Hardly. He was part of the spinathon and it continues. The Conservatives propose a Border Police, he re-badges a few agencies and pretends he has done it . People want change and he “Announces” £37 billion spending spree mostly recounted and reheated Blair things. Immigration is running at four times the levels of the 90s , he says he`ll chuck out 4000 foreign criminals ..(which actually he can`t). From his dismantling of the Academies programme ( despite public endorsement ) we who watch might guess what he is up to but thus far few others have . On Europe ...well he`s just lying isn`t he . But people say ..yes but the economy.....

Well the economy does not look to hot today. Five years of the fifteen years growth were under Major and nothing has changed since. The one thing that ‘everyone agrees on’ is that the independent Bank of England was a good idea. I doubt it made a lot of difference myself , but in any case it was already agreed as part of the Maastricht deal quietly behind the scenes prior to Gordon Brown . Its Topsy Turvy Gordon Brown who is the slippery one. Nothing he does is what it seems from tax cuts ( cough cough) onwards .

In the BBC`s head Brown having his photo taken in wellies turned back the floods like Moses at the Red Sea but everyone else wants honesty hope and a real change .David Cameron can give us that if we can just stop looking “ Through The Looking Glass”

Excellent points and theme, newmania. Let's have more desconstruction of this con man Brown.

Brown's bogus reputation has been almost totally fabricated on the back of the sort of age old lies and accounts trickery commonly used by those financial directors and con artists alike who profoundly distrust and detest their fellow humanity.

Such trickery is the stock in trade of the crumbling, compensatory elitist, who's profound inner insecurity demands everyone else is duped and screwed to fabricate and sustain the con artists's - inevitably disintegrating - personna as of the cleverest of them all.

Yet all the while, Broon's profound weakness is there on public display for all to see. For at the very moment when Broon gapes and swells with orgasmic pride and gets his jollies off from getting one over on us - peers and public, conferences and interviewers he so detests, even his own party, even his own leader - his self aggrandising reflex disintegrates into a grotesque mockery of all Broon claims to be.

Then the icy hand of terror grips his panic stricken throat and - as though he feels judgement of God is upon him for his lies - Broon gasps and struggles convulsively for air, like the drowning man floundering out of his element that Broon really is.

I agree with you about Cameron, but I begin to wonder if he has any chance to make it with the public given that the lefts Gramscian long-march through the institutions has given us a media who are enthusiastically in thrall to Gorgon Broon.

Take Mock the Week last night for example - the headline to guess? - 10% - the hilarious answer? Gorgons lead in the polls...

Good point, mutley. But, re this Gramscian march, remember what Marx said about hegemonies. Every one of them carries the seeds of it's own destruction.

It's up to us to create the conditions for those seeds to sprout by taking all the leaves out of nulab's book, by UNITING as never before. by backing Cameron and each other to the hilt.
