Newms (as the ladies call him),
The evil doers are all around us...
Some of them just happen to be furrier than others.
Hamsters are suprisingly intelligent creatures, so I think you should send this one to Iain Dale with a message.
Iain claims that to stop expansion of BAA's three largest airports in UK, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, is to transfer crucial business overseas which the UK economy cannot afford to lose.
Yet we know this is an entirely fallacious argument, that the government, like all EU governments, pumps £billions of taxpayer subsdies into the uniquely priviledged aviaton industry in the form of £42 billion worht of tax and VAT exemptions and exemptions from polluter pays laws which all other industries are forced to abide by.
However, it becomes even more fallacious when we consider that those three airports don't belong to BAA or a UK company.
BAA and it's airports Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick were bought out by the Spanish *CONSTRUCTION* group, Ferrovial in 2006.
Through their subsidiary, Amey, they have a LOT of high value UK public service contracts repairing and replacing UK's infrastrucure such as roads - projects which obviously increase where there is airport expansion and related housing development.
So, the UK taxpayer is effectively pumping tax and statutory exemptions worth c £43 billion - and rising - into a SPANISH aviationcompany which incurs for UK a substantial balance of payments deficit in respect of aviation tourism and damages our environment and our - unsubsidised - domestic tourist industry.
Nulab and Iain say, expansion of aviation means jobs and we need jobs.
But that claim, like so many of nulab's, is surely mired in muddy and illogical circularity.
Why do we so desperately need to create these Mickey Mouse jobs? To get people off the dole, they tell us. So, why then do we need to encourage a couple of million overseas workers to migrate here? Because we're so desperately short of workers, they tell us.
BUT WHY?
To stimulate local jobs, businesses and economies, they tell us, using airport expansion as a catalyst.
And we've created 660,000 mickey mouse jobs so far - at the cost of jeapordising our environment, our health and a million jobs in unsubsidised domestic tourism.
I know what you're thinking. Wouldn't a flat tax cost £42 billion and stimulate real jobs and real businesses.
But don't be so ridiculous, n, that would throw all of nulab's regeneration etc quango chums out of work, save us a fortune for real expansion projects such as prison building and pay for more real jobs such as police on the beat, and wouldn't it - and we wouldn't want that would we?
For, most horrendous of all, n, start chipping away at nulab's fantasy airport expansion case and fantasy demand figures and the excuse to dump 200,000 houses in the M11 corridor and even more around Heathrow evaporates - and along with them the case for uncontrolled migration, nepotistic regeneration quangos and the crumbling fortress nulab begins to evaporate too.
