Don`t Mind Us You Come On In
The Prime Minister trumpets his plans to build three million houses by 2020. What he omitted to mention is one million of these will be for new immigrants, not for existing immigrants who are now a valued part of our community, but for new immigrants." ...
Nicholas Soames, Tory MP for Mid Sussex, told a Westminster Hall debate
I found this in the Argus and there isn’t a lot to add except to say that the damage done to this country by the levels of migration it has been expected to absorb will probably never be put right .I suspect myself that immigration is a contributory factor in many more problems than housing but Labour Progressives don’t notice, tucked safely in their all white retreats in Dorset and Surrey. Liam Byrne tells us that a new points sysytem wil be in place next year but this is far to little far too late.
FACTS
1 The UK had absorbed two million people from "scores of countries around the world" over the past decade - equivalent to about 600 people a day.
2 Foreign immigration runs at 300,000 a year,
3 UK receives an additional one per cent of its population every two years .
4 Net immigration - is at an all-time high of 200,000 a year - up from just 50,000 in the mid-Nineties...... .”

Excellent post, N. As you know, a number of Labourite MPs are supporting a move that would offer an amnesty to 500,000 illegal immigrants in the UK.
N, you ain't seen nothing yet- just wait until Turkey joins the EU. Then we will witness one of the largest population movements in Europe since WW2.
A little known fact: The budget of the Immigration and Nationality Department of the Home Office in 1998-1999 was 300 million pounds; by 2003-2004 that amount had risen to 1.9 billion pounds—a jaw-dropping increase of 633 percent....
Excellent post N.
It's all very well saying ahhhh these people live in suchandsuch conditions and in a war zone etc (which most immigrants don't) but the people from war zones steal to survive - they have to. When they land in Blighty they don't miraculously turn into The Waltons! I don't want to see anyone die when we can help them but would you make your own children suffer by adopting next doors children, and the chaps down the road, and soandso's over the way, etc etc? You can absorb so only so much into your family without it fracturing from the effects. It would be better to help them sort themselves out where they live, we had to. This country WAS a family, a culture. It has been abolished.
To some degree we are all puppets on the stage of life.
Have you seen Cranmers excellent post on immigrant religion?
IT - I blogged on the ethnic mix of the staff of that office the other day . It was rather amusing I thought .
Ouch just noticed thats Billions ..how..what..eh ?
No I haven`t P but I will go and have a look . Super to see you still about
Not for long I'm afraid N, I'm due to have my internet connection surgically removed on 26th. No doubt someone somewhere will be quietly celebrating this triumph! Bless.
Booo
Quadrupled in ten years! Wow!
As Soames points out European migration is probably short term and possibly counteracted by many Brits moving to warmer climes, but also as much as we like to point out our differences we are quite similar culturally to many of our European neighbours. I welcome hard workers but not sure we should be in a position of being the "soft touch" destination of choice for your average Nigerian, etc.
I have a few questions for you...please bear with me...
1. You are not in favor of immigration adn would like to have less immigrants?
2. What are point systems for housing?
You can understand how Hitler got to power!
I don't really pay much attention to politics anymore - it's a comic farce acted out by egotistical people whose loyalties are totally misplaced.
The plug has been pulled on this country and an act of war declared on its indiginous population. People ask, for example, what I think is wrong with Boris - he's a Tory for a start, a party that is in on all of this probably more so than Nu Labour, blame them for the Single European Act and Maastricht.
I pray for and end to the 'good times' - so long as the alcopops are flowing no-one gives enough of a damn. I want the depression to come when there are enough good indiginous people left to take a scythe to the bastards who did this and the bastards who perpetuate it.
It's not about getting our country back anymore - that's far too late. It's about making someone pay.
Making who pay E-K??
EK don`t be so down. What a depressing post
I will give my view tommorow . I find EK`s remarks devastating really ....
when hague raised immigration as an issue it cost him his job and our country its best leader of a generation.
now so much damage is being caused by the excessive immigration levels.
But n, these immigrants are needed to pay for the retirement of the current gold-plated future pensioners in state jobs; without them the country will run out of money in about 2018 and there would be a revolution.
can't have that old chap and they do seem to like free houses that the Labourits give them.
The media need a wake up call on this and need to stop being so afraid of mentioning this disatrous polic. As do the Tories, this time round it will win them votes.
EK I think you are giving up too easily! I think the country can be put back on track.
Hmm I heard that alcopops line somewhere else recently ;-)
Itas interwstingnhow the debate has opened up over the last eyar . the real reason we have got oursleves into such a mess is the association of racism wirth immigration and the consequent lack of will directed at reasonable control.
Even the Labour Party now accepts it is a proper concern now
The other thing that strikes me is that the figures produced by the government for years were uterly false
I guess we are at a stage in British history where the ethnicity of indigenous Brits is going to be radically changed again..like the when the Vikings turned up, or the Romans, or the French.
Blogger has decided my blog is a "spam blog" and disabled it!! Given that 99 percent of comments are from other bloggers I find that weird...
What Lillith? Your blog was so popular , which I put down to your personal charm. Thats so ridiculous .
On the Vikings ..their arrival was not voluntarily accepted .
Perhaps not Mr N, but the Vikings brought with them institutions and traditions which we now regard as instinctively British (or English). This is where I get irritated by this idea that there is a natural British population - there isn't and it changes over time. At one stage it was thought that British and Indian culture would merge.
NuLabour ministers have frequently declared that "Britain has always been a nation of immigrants". Between 1066 and 1945 Britain actually had very few waves of immigration. Immigration today adds 1 per cent to Britain's population every two years, or more than 5 per cent every decade.
Labour decided in 1997 to dismantle practically all controls on immigration. Why? New Labour has always been a political project concerned with remaining in power at all costs. It conceived that England as a whole had a default Conservative majority, and set about ruthlessly eliminating this. Its always been known that immigrants and ethnic minorities as a whole heavily vote Labour, and this was one powerful lever for bringing about a sea-change in polotical demography. The second, of course, was increasing the payroll vote by vastly increasing the size of the public sector.
Mass immigration has happened because Labour wanted it to. The "left" simply does not trust the British to keep re-electing them.
Indeed one of the scariest things about the Left is they don't actually believe in democratic choice. Socialists will use any means to get to their Utopian end.
Trouble is, they are quite clever at hood-winking people into backing them frequently enough to get back into power.
IT I agre and housing Policy is of course part of that project , How else cabn Labour break the South . By polulating it with immigrants and thatv is what they are doing . You see the effect in London on a grand scale .
Ed your remarks about the mongrelly nature of the English are misleading and I agree with IT . the racial and ethnic homogeneity of this country are remarkable . Of course everyone comes ultimately from somewhere else but this is irrelevant after a thousand years
Hi Rob. I noticed this one in the papers today. Seems Islington Council are giving graffiti lessons to kids in the borough. What is up with these people?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2007/07/19/graffiti-class-to-keep-kids-off-street-89520-19477376/
So would you have a zero immigration policy then?
We better tell the Walloon weavers, Russian intellectuals and East African Indians, not to mention those pesky Jamaicans we invited over to work the buses.
Are you seriously saying that the "ethnic homogeneity" of the "English" should be maintained at all cost? I better get my coat - I can trace my ancestry to those sick invaders from Normandy 941 years ago: I am clearly not welcome.
So would you have a zero immigration policy then?
No ,I would have it phased down to levels of the 1990s see how that went and then reconsider the matter. I would increase the requirement on immigrants to respect and learn about the land they come to and stop unskilled immigration immediately . I see no reason why we should not refuse rights of entry to people who have beliefs inimical to the Liberal Democracy in which we live although politically untenable
Yes the ethic coherence of the English should be defended at all costs .Wasn’t that why we fought foreign invaders from Phillip of Spain through napoleon to The Kaisr and the Hitler .
The Norman`s were eventually subsumed into the native culture much as successive invaders of India became Indianised . It took a long time but by Chaucer’s period the English language had established pre eminence.
You re right that a opeople is a dynamic and chnaging thing just as alanguage is but too any disparate elements too quickly does not add to the whole it atomises it into the cultural equivalent of a pigeon language an crude disconnected world where relations are distant. This is what is happening to London. Otherwise the sheer over crowding and stress on infrastructure water and social resources is unsustainable.
So cautious phasing down , greater restrictions on entry and the death of the multi cultural distraction so the country can breath but not be over come .
That is my recipe
Yes the ethic coherence of the English should be defended at all costs .
So brown skin is un-English?
Zero immigration is not a credible approach. But there are also costs to the country in immigration - less skilled British find it hard to compete with better skilled immigrants who will take lower paid jobs, they cannot get cheap rented accomodation as immigrants compete for it. The tipping point is if the social costs arising from the effects on our less skilled and less employable citizens are higher than the benefits immigration brings.
Therefore, as a society we need to ensure that immigration is effectively managed, in the interests of all Britons, old and new. Labour have deliberately lost control of the system... and only a Conservative Government would have the guts to set an annual maximum limit on the number who can settle in Britain.
A good immigration policy would discriminate between types of immigrants - whether transient labour, permanent settlers, asylum seekers. It would also take into account housing, infrastructure and social integration. Currently, no such approach exists in the UK...
I agree with that sentiment IT. I'm not sure what it has to do with ethnicity.
Yes the ethic coherence of the English should be defended at all costs .
So brown skin is un-English?
.
'Effnick' is not the same thing as genetic Ed . Mrs N for example and Master N have brown skin of differing shades but they are both 'effnickly' English.
No you are confusing ethnicity with nationality. That is what made me wonder what the hell you were on about!
Wik
An ethnic group or ethnicity is a population of human beings whose members identify with each other, either on the basis of a presumed common genealogy or ancestry[1], or recognition by others as a distinct group[2], or by common cultural, linguistic, religious, or territorial traits.[1] Processes that result in the emergence of such identification are summarized as ethnogenesis.
The term is used in contrast to race, which refers to a classification of physical and genetic traits perceived as common to certain groups.[2]
Whose the daddy :)
Nationality is a legal status
OKOK my bad :-( Should have looked it up before pouncing.
Anyway it's not immigration per se that is the problem it's too many people not integrating. Absolute numbers aren't as important as ability for the "host" nation to cope and for the "guests" to get used to our system and values.
Have you seen that Zie Germans are requiring "spouses" to pass a strict language test before being allowed in? A good idea. I would prefer it if people weren't allowed indefinite leave to remain without being fluent in our language. But coupled to that I would like people who don't have permission to be here sent away as a deterrent to those who come in without documents.
Bloody hell. That was a rant I posted earlier. Where did that come from ?
I was mellowing nicely until your blog returned, Paul.
Aha the inner EK is comning out
Ed well thats the sort of. Its the cultural capital thats the point ...for me anyway.
And people feeling themselves to be part of the wider "community" so that they need not be suspicious of others' motives.
'...take a scythe to the bastards who did this and the bastards who perpetuate it.
It's not about getting our country back anymore - that's far too late. It's about making someone pay..'
With all respect in interpreting your words E-K , 'the bastards' too are of all colours, creeds and classes - just as we are; and the thing that really identifies them is not any of those characteristics but their determination to 'perpetuate it' because it gives them a living they couldn't otherwise earn, and enables them to justify themselves to one another as 'decent folk' ( I only have to see the word 'folk' and I know I'm dealing with a freeloading 'bastard').
And when we speak of 'our country' we don't intend a racialist's paradise of course, which is what the 'bastards' attribute to us; 'our country' is as diverse and non-judgmental as the next, but one where we are aren't driven deliberately to extreme positions just to oppose extreme provocation in the use of social resources and cultural practices.
It's the old game, divide and rule, cause trouble by creating blatant injustice and impropriety and enjoy being above the fray but profiting from it.
'Our country' the settled give and take of relationships between classes, cultures, respects, laws and freedoms, can't be got back, it is far too late.
'Making them pay' will come only when what we have preserved in our own, personal bits of our 'country' is to little to restrain us. And that involves not just us but our whole families and so it isn't close.
The tactic for the elites and those that they recruit now is to ensure that no reasonable, standard, normal, means of rejecting them is within our grasp.
You don't like it? what can we do about it within the confines of a reasonable and sane everyday life?
Really HG I don`t think of the problems as more dranatic thna they have been . I fear for the cxountry if Bronw gets in though
