The Liberal Answer To Gun Crime

Meral Ece a Liberal Coucillor is worrying in pusillanimous Liberal way about gun crime in the Gazette . I am drafting a reply but it needs editing . Not for my blog though…ha ha I can be as long a bloody dull as I like . Not bad looking really is she , come on for a Coucillor ?

Families in fear as gun culture takes its toll( edited)

Meral Ece writes

YOU reported the latest incident of a street gunfight in Mildmay, the ward I represent ("Two men are shot in street gunfight", Gazette, April 19)…….I know as the mother of a 16-year-old, how difficult it has become to feel my son is safe while he's out or on his way home from school.………………………….. Being a responsible parent has got a whole lot harder! ………….a 13-year-old could get hold of a gun for the price of a pair of trainers, would have been science fiction! How are these guns coming into the hands of young people so easily?Introducing X-rays in schools has been cited as one solution, but I think we have to go back to what Tony Blair famously told us he would do, before he became Prime Minister - be "Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime". We have the highest prison population in Europe, so imprisonment is clearly not working. Little has been done to tackle the causes of crime. It's easy to dismiss this as "black on black" crimes, but they are British black children killing each other. Social deprivation and violent crime are clearly linked. Couple this with serious educational underachievement and unemployment. Black pupils are three times more likely to be excluded from school, more likely to be unemployed when they leave school, more likely to live in overcrowded housing.Given this backdrop, they are more likely to embrace the drugs and gang culture. Solutions do exist, but it means real targeted investment in education and employment. Black community leaders and families have answers in how to deal with this, but support is needed for this London-wide problem. - Councillor Meral Ece, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Mildmay Ward, Islington Council, and chairwoman, Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrats.

The Liberals Should Face Their Guilt

Coucillor Meral Ece has suddenly noticed the terrifying rise in violent crime presided over by her and her colleagues. Well done . Violent crime in the UK has doubled in the last ten years and is now the worst Europe .We can ignore Superintendent Bob Carr`s suggestion that the rate in Islington dropped over the “financial year” 2006 -7. Half of the Met took an average of three weeks of sick last year , only one in 58 Policeman is on the street and 56 people deal with 128 bits of paper to bring simple case to court. I think we would all prefer this failing organisation to waste less time massaging their image and convert more of our mountainous taxes into bodies on the street . As we all know you are more likely to know the local traffic warden than the local Policeman.

Ms. Ece rehearses most of the failed left platitudes that have disappeared elsewhere. Firstly she says “ We have the highest prison population in Europe so prison is clearly not working “ What nonsense we haven’t tried it .Measured by crimes we incarcerate less criminals than anyone else . In Spain for example for every 1000 offences they imprison 48 here the number would be 12 . If you commit a crime here you are less like to go to prison which criminals know this if Coucillor Ece does not .They also know there are no cells so their sentences will be even shorter than they were . . Whilst banged up they will enjoy a higher standard of living inside than is found in most old peoples homes . Prisons do work and they provide justice

Ms. Ece calls for resources for a “London wide problem” . It is not a London wide problem . This sort of crime is typically found amongst populations living on benefits housed by the rest of us ,usually in fatherless communities where employment is rare and 90% marginal rates of tax keeps it that way . The link between discipline work and reward has been fatally severed and the moral breakdown has ensued. Her Council is are conniving with Ken Livingstone to add a further 11000 units to this groaning Borough so Islington’s career as a magnet for problems internationally and nationally will continue . Uncontrolled immigration ,often illegal ,has flooded all the inner city areas ours included. Encouraged by the discredited and cancerous Liberal creed of Multi-culturalism ghettos form and the very patriarchal family values that sustained new comers are undermined and sneered at .Don’t blame everyone else Meral you stand accused of responsibility for the erupting violence.

Her prescription is “ targeted investment in education and employment”. That means robbing honest hardworking families of money to be squandered on criminals and their accomplices in the state for whom they provide jobs . Clearly she sees guns as chiefly as “ Black on black problem “ and thinks the answer is to treat black men as if they were not responsible for their actions . How dare she imply that certain groups are somehow incapable of moral behaviour because of their ‘income‘? White boys are in any case the poorest performing working class group educationally , so some of her ideas are plain wrong

Drugs Tsars , Respect areas , sixty meaningless criminal justice bills , re-habilitation and endless calls for more money but I `ll; tell you what you will not hear . Nothing about right and wrong. You can have ”X ray cameras in schools “, ID cards, helmet mounted cameras and microphones hidden in lamp posts all of which we are getting ,but no amount of state surveillance can replace the moral foundations of society . Prisons are for punishment and criminals are guilty not society . The cause of crime I would like to be tough on is Meral Ece and the rest who have made a living out of poisoning the spring from which the precious civility of this country and Borough flowed.

It goes back to this:

'Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime.'

Wouldn't 'Tough on crime' have sufficed ? But no - Blair had to augment it with 'tough on the causes of crime' and continue the liberalist lie that criminals are the victims - victims of poverty.

Well no-one starves in this country so poverty does not exist.

That's alright, chaps - you keep battling it out for the 'centre ground' securing a minority consensus and ignoring what the majority of people really want.

Oh yes I forgot about that Mut.
This post is a bit dull and worthy actualy . I might do another today

The very word "deprivation" is a lie. Nobody is "depriving" people by force - if anything they deprive each other of the key essence - ambition.

Referring to "poverty" is an insult to the poor, btw, and an utter cop-out. Still, even if you suspend reason for a moment, we must remember that their "solution" to "poverty" is more spending and thus more taxation.

Let us recall Winston Churchill's excellent quote:

"We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."

oh, and while we are at it:

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy."

Roger that is magnificent and a new one for me . BRAVO superb post but I do myself accept that class is important and mobility between class especially so . It is well known that the Bliar years have actually taken us backwards showing Redistribution has no further role

I `m posting on tonight and I may well use this superb quote. I do believe in a fair society and I also believe that the state has a role in helping that into being .
How do we avoid the pit falls you so eloquently draw attention to

Old BE said...

N there is a HUGE difference between paying for "enabling" services such as education and (possibly a certain amount of housing to avoid slum creation) and paying people to not work. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that a "fair" society is created by the welfare system!

Fairness is about allowing people to make the best of what they have not giving people what they think they deserve.

I entirely agree with that Ed which is why I wish the Consrvative Party would be bit bolder with education policy.
Incidentally the Telegraph has a small article by a friend of mine Chris Skidmore today , on eductation and lack of opportunity . Arthurian Legend and I recently sat telling him our views on this subject

Stop the £9 billion a year in payments to the EU; cut all tariffs to zero on goods imported into the UK where there is no direct comparable competition from UK producers; raise the tax free threshold to £14,000; require anyone physically and mentally capable of work to do a minimum of 25 hours per week environmental maintenance work (scrubbing the pavements, picking up litter, planting trees, removing graffiti and chewing gum); abolish tax credits; introduce thorough examinations on all claimants (existing and new) with the aim of reducing the total value of payouts by half in two years.

The longest queue I have seen in a long time was outside the Post Office on Essex Road where about 30 people seemed able to rouse themselves to stand and collect their benefits (I presume) at 9.15am.

What would a single mother do with her child whilst working ?

Like this bit
'introduce thorough examinations on all claimants (existing and new) with the aim of reducing the total value of payouts by half in two years.'

All in all much more interesting than my post AL thanks

Excellent reply - the answer to the breakdown of families and institutions, increased anomie and 'loose individual' attributable to Big Government, is not 'more state' but 'less state' and more individual and community power and responsibility.

Frank Field is right; welfare is a prison. Clinton's reforms in the US freed millions from the painful slavery of welfare.

YES to local labour offices making their own decisions on benefit eligibility - they know better than anyone who is trying it on, who is workshy and who just needs a shove or a helping hand.

YES to tax benefits for families with mums and dads, preferably biological dads of the children. Single mums can be provided with heavy duty washing machines and made to take in hospital laundry and wash and iron it and similar work that keeps them at home but useful

Love the bucket quote too - excellent

Oh, I like it when your angry and all fired up! If this would have been written in the US - Jesse Jackson would have been all up in her clam about it. I have decided that I am sick of all this bull shit and I am going to buy a small island and rule it myself.

In real life I rarely indulge in either of these. This island sounds a good idea though. I `ll come to and you can be the serving woman( I `ll be king)

There is a simple solution to gun crime , If you are caught with an illegal one you have your hands amputated , end of problem.
No prison semtence just amputation.
And law abiding folk should be able to own and carry them providing they are licensed.

Newmania,

Kevin has it spot on. Why don't you suggest to the editor that he has a forum on this topic for his readers discussing the Lib Dem view against yours on gun crime. Does Labour exist in your ward, btw?

Newmania said...

It s an interesting thought Hitch .Perhaps a bit extreme but i donnot see why it is so dreadful to have coporal punishment. Part of the problem we have is that prison is to easy . I very much like the idea of recompemse being givemn to the victim as well .The Liberals were talking about this

Newmania said...

Does Labour exist in your ward, btw?

Very much so Ellee , we are the loony left Coucil as was under Enver Hodge . They are about to regain power I think. Conservatives are a tiny minority

Roger thornhill - excellent quote but I think I may be with EK on this one. With liberals and EK in mind, I wonder if you would say HWMNBN is the Churchill to DC's Stanley Baldwin?

Newmania, I'm afraid I don't have the confidence you have in DC.

Meral Ece a Liberal Coucillor, and her associates have most effectivly disarmed the entire honest population of it's last pistol, and left only the criminals with weapons. They have also castrated the British police so that only 2.5% of them are accessible to the public. I read recently that four prison officers were hospitalised by inmates for taking a laptop from a terrorist prisoner. Liberals have ensured that whole areas have only feral children in them. A headmasters Union have just reported that an army of unemployable children are to be released into the population from our schools. Surely time for a rethink without Liberal input.

Still Mr N...you are faced with a country where a weird little pervert like Lord Brown earns about 50,000 a week for not much - chairing the odd meeting whilst trying to remain awake after a hard night buggering rent boys - and the minimum wage gives around 180 pounds a week for 40 hours scrubbing pots... nursing the elderly ... looking after learning disabled adults... home caring cancer patients... etc. Odd isn't it?

Lord Browne of Madingley, if you want to be precise, Muts.

The most significant thing about the affair is not Browne-buggery, but the revelation that BP is seriously considering removal from the City; financiers are bound to follow - all because of punitive taxation from PM Brown (cough)...

...if so there goes the housing market and our eggs-in-one-basket economy and all we're left with is one over-crowded and fragmented country.

Electro-Kevin said...

Jenny,

Most Brits I know hate Tony Blair. He's a wicked and duplicitous man.

Newmania said...

Mutley it is the socialist myth that the few hundred superrich come into the equation at all . From this they go onto to justify taxing anyone who has a house. This is bread and circus politics . I agree that society is becoming daangerously divided but not at this fairy tale level.

Incidentally I have nothing against Browne his sexuality or his rent boy. Your contrast is odd in the sense that life is odd but that is not a problem for government necessarily .

IMHO

8000,000 jobs to be offshored iover the next ten years. Why can1`t we do this with out prisioons . India would be perfect. Seriously its expensive to have them here ..why pay over the odds

NM, class is important. Class is a dynamic thing. Grammar schools and an ethos of social aspiration helped then. Maybe not precisely the same is needed now, but the key is to provide opportunity to the poor to escape if they want to grasp it. The entropic, anti-elitist chav culture and the self-loathers and mediocrities you often find in social and educational services do not help.

Anyone saying "life chances" will get a slap.

Electro-Kevin said...
