The Wimbledon Championships will hand women and men equal prize money for the first time at this year's tournament.
The announcement, due at 1100 GMT from the All England Club, brings it into line with other Grand Slams after criticism from officials and players.
Similar to the US and Australian Opens, equal rewards will be offered across the board, from the champions down to the first-round losers in all events.
The French Open only offers the same cheque to the champions.
I `ve got a good idea why don`t they have all the prize money in one pot and then they can all compete on entirely equal terms in one competition. Of course that would mean that in the next one hundred years not a single woman would win anything but it would be fair . Typical , even when it is absurd to suggest otherwise , the notion that men might actually be better at something is prohibited .

hello :)
Ah now Miss Smack obviously I dion1t mean that you shouldn`t have equal prize mioney of course you should anyway Mutley made me say it
God still no update on Miss Smacks Love Life . She is such a tease
Wake up from your reverie, N! I know Ms Smack is distracting but....
Why can't they switch women's games to 5 sets? That should be the quid pro quo for equal pay. The players of the last 20 years must be so much bigger and stronger, physically, than when LTA established the rules of the game, that there is now no need to maintain this absurd disparity.
Good Point David ,its about time these lazy women started earning their money.
Newman.. a fresh post for you.
I `d suggest any male popping in reads that...
Oh, Newman, you're too kind!
You liked it eh?
I've been thinking about it ALL DAY but just havent been able to sit and compose it until now... quite late, near midnight.
I would have dropped you an email but I couldnt find an address on your blog.
Hey guys I think we should go and
leave these two alone ,can you give us a shout when we can come back.
Newman - did you fake that post?
It has your typing errors in it LOL
Nope not me . Do I have distinctive typing errors ? Oh dear.
Well anon as I said , I am doing one of two longer serious things per week and filling in with any old lighthearted stuff if the mood takes me .
Its all I have time for.
What rot. They get paid for the entertainment value, on which basis Maria Sharapova should be paid billions.
I second that Brit! Well said.
It is a tricky one, if it is a shorter game, then should women players be paid for the time on court or for winning the ensuing title? Why should money get in the way all the time?
Its not very serious Ellee. It was just a remark I heard someone make that I thought was rather funny.
They all get plenty
N, I have just visited Miss Smack's blog for the first time. Now I know why you are always dribbling these days.....
For a start, it's not 'pay'.
It is an open tournament where they say 'come and enter this is the prize'.
People are free to choose whether to enter or not.
I'm sure the All England Tennis Club 'pay' male and female stewards the same.
Tissue for the dribble, sir?
Oh dear Miss Smack this post went a bit off the rails I `m afraid I will have to be more sensible in the future.
Now this is one issue I really couldn't give a toss about !
I think we all make our choices, even elite athletes on where we take our careers.
Women should earn what the blokes do, but as long as the crowds support men more than women, the advertisers are slaves to the public.
Kev Nor could I really , I just though the idea of the men playing thre women for the whole lot was slightly amusing.
I wish it was 'amusing'... but it isn'nt.
Fucked up police, fucked up fire brigade, fucked up navy and soon to be fucked up army...
...and the irony is that the women don't like it either.
Art. Maybe the fictional Gene Hunt will resrtore the srexy manliness that this country needs. needs.
BTW I said that wiv a dose of scotch and an afternoon spent wiv MPs in a local tavern.
MP`s? Miliatary police or members of parliament ?
It could equally be either
