Courtesy of Croydonian( The Master) I discovered these exerts from the Magna Carta today. Lord Mowbray , venerable Tory Peer and Wordsworthian character died on Tuesday and his direct ancestor was one of the signatories . His family was straight from Evelyn Waugh but he seemed such a charming gentleman. When badly injured he was indifferent to a doctor but demanded the attendance of a Priest. I like that, Ive never trusted Doctors. I suspect that when you are deaths door they may well pull you though .
Magna Carta
+ (39) No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land.
+ (40) To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.
(41) All merchants may enter or leave England unharmed and without fear, and may stay or travel within it, by land or water, for purposes of trade, free from all illegal exactions, in accordance with ancient and lawful customs.
(45) We will appoint as justices, constables, sheriffs, or other officials, only men that know the law of the realm and are minded to keep it well.
WE seem to have gone backwards...in so many ways

We must be seen to be in tune with the modern world, not complaining about life today harking back to a so-called golden age
Why not?
Paul - Nice of you to call me that. Any chance of a link, maybe?
Returning to topic, I have an especially visceral dislike of Barbara Mills, formerly the DPP, who dimissed trial by jury on the 'grounds' that it was an old concept and therefore fit to be swept away.
Doesn't the magna carta still have legal force? When was it repealed then?
If you can tell me how to link C I will be delighted !!!
你好新疯狂! 好运气在竞选! Mutley 告诉我您跑为Of 伦敦市长!! 如果您然后没赢取您能来和是Bridport 的市长!
You quite new are crazy! The good luck is campaigning for! Mutley tells me you to run is Mayor Of London! ! If you then have not won you to be able to come with are Mayor Bridport!
I love reading those rules, it's makes you wonder exactly where we are today.
Could I have a link too, btw, you are on my blogroll.
Elle I do not imagibne many people will ever look at this feeble scrap book but if i ever work out how to do it then you and Croydonian will be the first
Thanks, just checking, and have a very merry Xmas.
I think the quaint old trial by jury is to be swept away by our new ruler in Europe (Magna Carta or no)
for light relief MuTaiDong11:03 PM
ps. I know the Mayor of Bridport: I don't think he is running for Mayor of London or ignoring the Magna Carta as other leaders do......he does however "know the law of the realm and is minded to keep it well."
Just want to wish you a merry Christmas and say thank you.
I'm just interested in why they'd be harmed if they left England.
THis may be silly little scrap book of a blog but I have some of the top bloggers in the cosmos .
Swollen with pride
Too right!
That's a lot of comments, Paul. Are you sure you're cut out for false modesty? Oh.. and can I have a link?
Will link when i can work out how and that will certainly be all here . Thisis only an occassional thing and i would love to inmtroduce locals to proper bloggers
Newman for Mayor!
