Graph showing how increases
celebrity endorsement are directly proportional to personal evil.(Courtesy of the VCI institute)
Where my own familiarity with the subject is wobbly I use the vacuous celeb index or VCI ,( the lower the better obviously ).For example ,whilst I pick over the UK political scene like an orang-utan nibbling its own fleas ,on the US I use nasal intuition. Obama`s queasily messianic speeches turned me off but it was his vertiginously high VCI that cemented the prejudice .
Gushing endorsers include Oprah Winfrey, Gwyneth Paltrow, George Clooney, Kanye West , Spike Lee ,Susan Sarandon Jennifer Aniston and a starry night sky of screen legends . Mc Cain has a Beach Boy and a Baldwin( Stephen ?…Nope me neither). The Republican’s VCI rating being commendably low I conclude he is the man the world needs
Madonna`s video montage showed Mc Cain alongside destruction, global warming and Robert Mugabe whilst Obama got Ghandi, John Lennon and Al Gore.. I need hardly say how adversely this affects Obama`s score
The rule holds good for Blair .Even a passing acquaintance with the method might have saved us in 2001 .Supernova hot Britney Spears backed Labour and in the midst of Spice mania Geri Halliwell appeared in a Labour party election broadcast. Eeeek. The Conservatives mustered Mike Batt , the Wombles bloke. Phew.

Ken ,the bitter, recently unleashed Lord Puttnam, Billy Bragg and Baldrick but poor Boris was left at the altar by Elton John who backed Paddick along pink lines presumably .Boris was devastated after all the Chistmas cards, "Elton and I are going to have to see what's going on." …he sulked . Similarly , his valiant attempt to induce Amy Winehouse to record : "'Ken Livingstone - no, no, no.' was ignored. Thank goodness .The support of La Winehouse would have lead to anomalies in the VCI curve which I would have had to ask a particularly perfidious climatologist to explain away.
Worryingly ; nice Mr. Cameron has been wooing nasty Simon Cowell .Cameron and Cowell's meeting (early June ) was arranged by Cameron's spin-doctor the former News of The World editor Andy Coulson and Max Clifford . Cowell and Cameron rubbed shoulders with the likes of Naomi Campbelland Liz Hurley somewhere swanky which , I must admit , is causing some alarm at the VCI Institute

I like it. I have often wondered why "celebs" feel the need to publicly back politicians. Even at the height of his power, a Blair endorsement was likely to turn many potential customers off!
Newsnight showed to sickly-sweet guff at the Democrat convention. Ugh. Obama is a real turn-off for me. I don't like McCain but I can't stand Obama's "star quality". It screams "facade".
Thatas what I thibnk BE but on the other hand I cannot claim to have a good enough understanding of their policy positions to have strong opinions
Celebrity endorsement makes me want to vomit, unless it's BoJo's endorsement of me, obviously.
Your MP in Lewes was in the news recently - he likes to sing jazz and is crap so the story went. But he still gets up and does it. I think that's just great, I'd applaud, buy the man a beer and join in. Unless he actually thought he was great and objected to audience participation..
He is well liked locally P and were he not a Liberal I would probably like him as well.
he has always been into music , used to be the manager of Our Price in the High Street
You're 'aving a laugh with that avator, Newms. Monosyllabic and moody??
I wish I wish I had never thought of an avatar its driving me mad
I think you should consider the piccy in my latestpost ;-)
You are just in awe of my eye, N.
Why wouldnt singers and whatnot - whoever those people are - have political opinions? In the event I became famous for singing (!!) I would still hold political opinions however crap...
They do Mut and IMHO the wrong ones
What about this
The problem as i see it, Muts, is that some ill educated warbler who is probably spaced on drugs and has about as much experience of real life (ie. mortgage, responsibilities) as any inmate to a mental institution is influencing the greater public. Stupid though they may be for following such a hedonistic asshole who lives in an enclave not remotely like anyone elses life, which the policies of the political parties affect (or is it effect, no affect). It is still a concern. I mean, if james Blunt wanted to go full steam ahead through an ice flow and the majority said 'jolly good, and give us another song' would you say 'OK' or would you say 'I hope the twat drowns and where's the lifeboats?'.
It's a cause for concern.
Newms, avator still crap i'm afraid - would you per-lease try the piccy on my latest post, it's you!
No more experiments P and I `m afraid your idea would make me look gay so no
GAY?!!
Oh.. it's the waxed look isn't it? Ok then (still a nice bum though)
One more experiment
it's still a monosyllabic moody character that isn't real, however much you vomit colours on him.
Well I like it .
Muuuh
So do I, it's getting the type I prefer that's the problem.
Interesting...
Don't dismiss Mike Batt so easily, though. He has written, performed and conducted the orchestra for a number of projects, from "Zero Zero" (excellent) to "The Hunting of the Snark" performed before Royalty.
Very good and greatly undervalued is Mike Batt.
A fabulous observation (the original post)
Personally I think we have to suffer celebrity endorsement good, bad or ugly. If it get's em a few dollars more so what ? If it gets 'em a fist full then there's not a lot you can do about it if it came from a man with no name.
(Like the Avatar btw - sepia would lent it more gravitas.)
