Scientology

Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion
Hubbard ........hmmmmm
It is rumoured that there has been a hysterical Tom Cruise rant about Scientology loose on the inter-web . It was posted up on Philipa`s Fortean Times site on the blogroll ... . I do not share the obsession with celebrity that seems to dominate much of the news but I was curious to see what on earth this scientology ,mularky was all about .
A quick dabble in the virtual pond and I think I have it . We are all immortals, or Thetans , who live for trillions of years, a period longer than the life of the Universe inhabiting many bodies .We would be happy but our past lives accumulate unhappy experiences , an inadvisable fashion choice in the mediaeval period perhaps , a rough suitor during our time as a Venetian Courtesan, who can say ,but rest assured scientology can help you unburden yourself of this ancient baggage and become ...like Tom Cruise.
There are other problems facing the adept though , look out for Xenu

...”
Xenu (sometimes Xemu), introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy." According to this story, 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together, stuck to the bodies of the living and continue to do this today. Hubbard *( The originator of Scientology) called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans," and advanced-level Scientologists place considerable emphasis on isolating these alien souls and neutralizing their ill effects

Naturally it has only been necessary for me to come into contact with thse convincing ideas to be converted from my weak adherence to the Church of England. And now I am so special and wonderfully enlightened , I must rush around doing good ....when I have had a coffee and read the Papers a bit

Yes, those "views" do rather make resurrection and transubstantiation look rather plausible. I love the way they try to present themselves as somehow an "advanced" organisation by mixing the word "science" into their name.

Resurrection and transubstatiation can be understood as symbols or part of a picture just as we understdn Freud say...but I do`nt want to get into that

No, Catholics actually are supposed to believe that the bread turns into Jesus' flesh. It isn't a pick-and-choose faith. But anyway my point was that it's more plausible than the idea that we are all controlled by the great Xenu.

It was a bit scary wasn't it? Typical 'holier-than-thou' rant.

I like Ed's comment about incorporating the word 'science' into their name. I'm going to invent a religion called the Anglican Scientists - we generally follow the teachings of Christ but have sundays off. This allows the proper scientific research and dutiful appreciation of all that is wondrous about the gift of our lives, families and the planet we enjoy.

On the subject of pseudo-science and total bollocks, have you seen this?

This is from the advisor to the Conservative party on children and families is it not??
