I made this comment on Mr. Dales Blog about Boris and the possibility of him saving us from ghastly Mr. Livingstone. As a couple of people seemed to like it I thought I `d bung it in.
I love Boris I dote on his every word . I `ve met him several times actually but it is the writing and the underlying Conservatism I relish.
Boris stands for a cavalier spirit , not in a frivolous way but in the sense of the Cavalier Poets who spurned ponderous earnestness seeking a rightness through the crafted nonchalance , lightly carried learning and the perfection of lyrical music. It was a political statement then and it remains so today. It undercuts the fake sanctimony of plodding earnest Brown`s persona ( in fact he is just a squalid liar). By his manner Brown seeks to close debate , Boris is plural and modest , fully understanding that most important Conservative principle that new does not mean better and that it is arrogant to imagine you can drive a living society like a car. Humour of a gentle sort is characteristic in that the ambitions of men will be judged against experience and the folly of “cleverness” revealed. In such a character you find One Nation Conservatism and Libertarianism resolved. There is no-one close to him is expressing the living spirit of the traditional Conservative attitude in all its contradictions and noone so instinctively against the new “NATIONAL GOVERNMENT” of Brown. I share his horror .
Islington Conservatives would be overjoyed but I cannot see Boris going to for it . It would be difficult to continue his career and he has no special interest in local politics .I personally would be happy to campaign for him day and night but could he win?
Well in many ways I would rather the Party backed a Conservative and made a heroic fight of it . It is said that immigration has been so fast that the Conservative task in London is sisyphitic but thats no reason not to try

Ha! You are too weak! You can't beat the blog addiction!
I agree apart from the bit about London being a lost electoral cause for the Conservatives.
My God, Newmania is back !
I'm getting a hard-on.
Only occasionally EK I have meaning to put your blog on mine for ages I have to wait until I see you around .I just don`t have the time for the talk radio thing I`m going to to do something about once a week , thats all
Great to hear from you though. Hope all well
Ken is sexy, but Boris is much, much, much sexier and I think he'd win.
He represents the antidote. But if I were him, would I give up Henley?
I know how you feel E-K. Just seeing a new post on Newmania's blog gets me moist.
ha ha Lilith.
Mr N have you been encoding extra pheromones into your blogger?
Yes I have .I have discovered have to encode the essence of a jock strap after a sevens tournament.
I think I shall use my powers for evil
Moving swiftly on ...
if the Tories can't take the Mayoralty it's Not A Good Sign For Dave
Have you got a chubby too, Nick ?
I am immune to the pheromones, but I can't get enough intellectual grit.
Nick , can`t see it myself but noone seems oto have a good breakdown of the Boroughs . You will know as well as I do that there are real no go areas for Conservatives realistically and bI have a feeling the demographics are against us..
What is that word that begins with S ...anyway we need one of them
Not sure about numbers, but Conservative candidates have won or come close in safe Labour wards recently so I reckon the right candidate can win.
Would be nice to think so Ed.
Kev, for the avoidance of doubt the answer is nope
I have met yer man in the flesh and, whilst I owe him a drink, that's all he's getting from me
Mania - S = saviour ? strategy ? sense of proportion ? stiff whiskey ? stalin ? sarkozy ? spark ? smack ? scroblene ? senturion tank ? superwoman ? savaronola ? sound thrashing ? solidarnosc ? svengali ?
Superbock?
I was expecting you to stand Mr N..I have told a lot of people (Mrs Patel and the lady in the chemists) that I know you and you are standing for Mayor. Now you make me ridiculous...(take a look at Praguetory...tee hee)
ND -There was no doubt.Should the subject not crop up again I could probably live with it actually
